A gift wrapped in paper covered with Santas, reindeers and Christmas trees. A shiny red ribbon is tied around it with a card tucked underneath. The card says:

‘Merry Christmas Sienna! Man I’m so happy we met again and that you live here now. I still can’t get my head around it! Anyway, I noticed you never seemed to know a lot of popular songs or artists so I got a few of the best. I hope like them!

Sienna raced down the stairs, summoned to the front door by the arrival of a present with her name on it. She stumbled down the last few steps and then sprung to the front door, where her elderly landlady stood holding a package adorned with festive images and sealed with a bright red bow.

“Here you go, dear,” the lady said pleasantly and passed the gift over. She quietly plodded back to the sitting room. 

Sienna pulled the card out and skim read the message, noting it was from her wizard friend.

“Thank you Skyler,” she said and as she tore away the ribbon. The wrapping was clawed off too and revealed four square plastic containers, with an array of pictures on the front. The back seemed to list something. Sienna put the gifts down and reread the card properly. So it was some kind of music.

Sienna opened the first of the square plastic cases and found a flat round object seated inside. When nothing happened she realized it was not some sort of advanced music box. She frowned and pulled it out. Maybe… she tried pulling the disc out and holding it up to her ear, but the room remained silent. Technology moved so fast it was hard to remember what you were supposed to do to activate half of the gadgets everyone used. She looked at the silver surface again and this time noticed the hole in the middle. 

‘Ah hah!’ She exclaimed and plunged her finger through the centre. She waited patiently for a minute, but was again disappointed. She tried a different one to the same effect. Perhaps they were broken. Regardless, she appreciated the sentiment. It was nice to get a present on Christmas. She’d just have to let Skyler know there was an issue so they could exchange them.

Foundation Day

A town-wide festival celebrating the founding of Cyreus Cove.

12th August 1835, the day Cyreus Cove was founded. Back then the town was a mere coastal settlement with the sole purpose of housing the pearl divers who worked day and night harvesting the highest quality pearls from the cove. As the pearling industry boomed, hundreds of workers migrated to the settlement in hopes of making a fortune. It was thanks to them that the settlement expanded and evolved into a well-functioning town with many of the buildings you still see today, such as the Town Hall, the Aqua Library and the Sea Cows’ Rest—a popular tavern in the centre of town. This festival celebrates the town’s roots in pearling with an exciting one day event! Reef Park, Cyreus Cove’s largest park, will host this year’s festival grounds with plenty of stalls and activities for everyone to enjoy.

The theme for today is community! Come meet other members of your town and make some new friends! Or if you can’t make it to the festival, why not have a go at volunteering for the community or giving a helping hand to the people in your daily life?

Festival grounds is home to various stalls set up by locals; many of them selling handicrafts relating to Cyreus Cove and it’s founding. Mermaid and seal memorabilia is usually quite popular however, a warning to newcomers, it is incredibly hard to find something that doesn’t contain pearls, faux or real.

Activity booths with free mini games are also available to the public. Children commonly play active games like ring toss and flag relays, while adults often enjoy cards and board games.

There is a main stage that hosts a talent show, musicians and stand-up comedy all performed by locals in town. Occasionally the stage is opened to anyone in the audience who would like to improvise a performance.

Participation:

Players can participate in any way they please, whether it be a thread dedicated to the event or a brief passing thought. Participation is not compulsory but is encouraged. In this event, your character can:

Shop at the local stalls, or open one themselves to sell their wares to other characters.

Play games in an activity booth; whether it be an active sport or a board game.

Volunteer at the festival, such as supervising children, assisting backstage, etc.

Perform on-stage in the talent, music or comedy shows.

Assist another character in the spirit of the festival.
