I have so much more to share with you. Like the mermaid bots.

These baby bots (they have very simple AI) are called AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles) and they work as a swarm!

They're goal is to reach a target (which is a magnet hidden beneath the orange coloured stuff) and when one finds it, it lights up all the blue diodes. Nearby units see the flashing lights and start lighting up as well and then they gather around the goal.

They already developed a second prototype that can recharge underwater. These babies were already pretty low on battery when I came by so they looked kinda lazy (but no less cute!!)

Hopefully, they might be used in the future to recover blackboxes from sunken ships and airplanes that land underwater, or follow fish around with cameras, retrieve things from wrecks... do all sorts of underwater tasks.

Their swarm behaviour was really fun to watch, especially when they found the target (it was like a big underwater puppy pile!)

Cebit's Research & Innovation Hall was awesome.
