I’ve been meaning to make a post for a while now about my Sonic Prime: Paradox AU, which explains the powers the characters are going to get. Spoilers ahead, so if you’re interested, I recommend catching up with the story so far first: archiveofourown.org/works/64058878
Tails ~ Purple Shard [The Grim]
Power = Creation (Telekinesis & making things with your mind)
I figured this fit in well with Tails’ entire personality of being the brains behind everything. Similar to what Nine did when he first came to the Grim, Tails can create whatever he wants from other objects. He has telekinesis alongside this, but I see this as a bit different to Silver’s abilities since he has psychokinesis which is a bit more advanced, as well as his time travel. (For anyone who doesn’t know, TK is essentially a version of / included within PK).
Amy ~ Green Shard [Boscage Maze]
Power = Nature (Growing plants & talking to animals)
This was an obvious choice imo 😅 We already knew the Green Shard could grow trees, plus Amy already speaks to the flickies and she loves nature no matter which universe we’re in. Her name is literally Rose… 🌹 I also imagined that, as the powers got stronger, her emotions would affect her abilities and she would start spawning flowers wherever she walks, a bit like Willow from the Owl House, but with wilting or dull flowers if she’s sad, spiky vines if she’s angry, and colourful blossoms if she’s happy. 🌸
Knuckles ~ Blue Shard [No Place]
Power = Storms (Controlling lightning, thunder & oceans)
Again, we saw in the show that the Blue Shard lets people control lightning, so I just expanded upon this a bit. These powers kind of work in a similar way to Storm from the Marvel Xmen Comics. ⛈️ I know it might have made more sense to have given him the Red Shard to match his colouration, and I went back and forth for a while considering swapping him and Rouge, but in the end I figured that doing it this way around was better overall because this way:
- He’d get powers closer to his existing destructive strength.
- The blue mixing with his red could make a purple that matches his eyes.
- He could create an amusing rivalry / brotherhood with Dread by ending up in No Place.
Rouge ~ Red Shard [New Yoke]
Power = Ghost (Invisibility, phasing through objects & mild mind manipulation)
Rouge was a bit more difficult to come up with, but in the end I figured she would benefit from abilities that match her personality and existing skill set, whilst also helping her out in the dystopian world of New Yoke. So, I thought I’d give her powers that would make being a spy a bit more interesting. 😏 So now she’s kind of like Danny Phantom but with red powers instead of green 😅 She can go invisible, phase through objects, and also, to varying extents, control people’s minds, whether that’s through some kind of external influence, persuasion or manipulation, or just full-on brainwashing or body possession. 👻 Funnily enough, I actually have a different AU idea where Rouge is a Siren, so part of her mental manipulation powers also stem from that 🧜♀️
Shadow ~ Yellow Shard [Green Hill]
Power = Ultimate (Black Arms & unlimited Chaos abilities)
I was kind of running out of ideas a little at this point tbh 😂 Plus Shadow is so overpowered anyway, and I figured Green Hill is supposed to be ‘the norm’, so I thought that the Yellow Shard could end up just evening out and helping to enhance the users existing abilities. So now Shadow doesn’t need his inhibitor rings and is much less overwhelmed by his excessive abilities. Just felt like that guy deserved a bit of reprieve from the ever-mounting stress his own biology always seems to put him under 😅
Sonic ~ No Shard [The Void]
Power = Heart (Portalling between universes & acting as a catalyst for the Prism)
Sonic’s a bit different in that there’s no shard for him, so that basically means no extra powers, but he kind of has the combined power of the full Paradox Prism and essentially exists to connect and stabilise all the Shatterspaces and the Shards. He is essentially the ‘heart’ of all Prism Energy…. Without Sonic acting as a catalyst to absorb and control the Prism Energy, none of the others would have been able to absorb the power of the Shards and would’ve just exploded 😂 This also means that he is the one who makes travel between the Shatterspaces possible, even holding the ability to portal between them on his own without needing to use an external energy source ⚡️
And there you go! I’ll be honest, apart from Tails’, these powers don’t even really end up being that relevant to the plot in the end, since the story mostly focuses on him and Nine, but it was a little something extra to add in anyway just for fun 😅
