Burn Ban begins Wednesday, April 1

Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service will be implementing a burn ban, in effect beginning Wednesday April 1, 2015.

The ban will be in place for the entire month as in the past and will continue to be implemented each April. Residents will be informed when the ban is lifted.

“Despite the fact that the ground appears to be saturated or still perhaps has a bit of snow covering the northern areas of the city, the southern end of the city can be completely arid,” said Chief Pankhurst. “Dry grass and debris catch fire easily and flames spread quickly. Typically by the end of April things have greened up and the risk of grass fires is dramatically reduced.”

Under section 8.03 of the by-law those setting a fire during a burn ban can be charged under the Provincial Offences Act and will also be responsible for the costs incurred by fire control.

Road Maintenance Update‏

Just a quick note to let you know that our road is being graded today.

A major load of gravel and a further grading to improve the roadbed and reduce pothole development over the summer will be also done sometime during the next week.

It’s obviously been a very busy time for the road maintenance crews given the extreme winter. A big thanks to Wilf D., our Road Manager for his efforts working with the city and the road maintenance contacts.
