Story:
Change was the most important thing in the world. That is what Cedarwhisper kept believing all throughout his life.
As cats died, he only noted that this was change in the world. As he went hunting, he’d note how this would change which prey would be where. Squirrels would move when they noticed cats, and make nests elsewhere. Birds would not lay eggs if they are killed too early. This was all change. Everything would change at a moment’s notice, and Cedarwhisper knew he was susceptible to that.
But he refused to let himself fall subject to change taking him by surprise.
If he had friends, he could lose them at a moment’s notice. So, he kept his distance from his Clanmates, regarding them all as acquaintances. He kept his schedule to a constant, keeping note of every little thing he did that would go against his norm. He refused to let others help him, not wanting changes to how he did things.
Woolstar was a kind old tom, maybe even too kind.
Maybe that’s why he had been given Sunpaw as an apprentice. The tortie tom was questioning and expressive, practically oblivious to everything going on outside of the Gladeclan camp. It was a change for Cedarwhisper, and he found the tom annoying but bearable. The two’s relationship was not ideal, but it was not negative.
Change struck once again when Silkthorn, the former deputy, stepped down. She couldn’t continue her duties any longer due to old age, and Cedarwhisper stepped up to take her place. Cedarwhisper made sure that the Clan stayed in line, something Woolstar didn’t seem to want to do.
Woolstar let the Clan run around like excited kits, letting them slack off through the day when they could be training their apprentices or setting out borders to keep rogues out. He tried to encourage Cedarwhisper to break schedule, to relax every once in a while, but Cedarwhisper refused, not wanting change to get the better of him.
Cedarwhisper kept trying to keep the Clan in line, which earned him the disdain of some of his younger Clanmates. Of course they wouldn’t understand how his brain worked, why would they? It all seemed to be fruitless efforts, with the Clan continuing on as if Cedarwhisper never stepped up as deputy. The Clan would die out eventually, but he needed to delay that.
Changes needed to happen.
Cedarwhisper, one night, came to discuss things with Woolstar. How the Clan was unorderly, needed proper guidance and schedule. And Woolstar’s reaction to this advice? To just laugh it off, and tell Cedarwhisper he couldn’t control the way the cats acted.
He knew this! But he can encourage a change of schedule! It felt like he was talking to a stone wall, his voice getting more strained and strained until eventually, he stomped a paw down to leave. He realized that his paw happened to be covered in blood, and he blinked slowly as he stared at Woolstar’s bleeding out body, a large wound in his fluffy neck.
He did that.
He’d have to step up as leader, causing yet another change to his schedule-- one he welcomed. The Clan would finally be able to thrive under his guidance. Only, he froze and slowly turned as he heard a shuffling noise.
Hillpaw, grandson of Woolstar. The fluffy, brown-and-white tom stared at him with wide eyes. He couldn’t have witnesses.
Changes needed to happen. Changes needed to happen. Changes needed to happen. He repeated that mantra to himself as he dug his claws into yet another neck, and when he had to deal with the other witness who happened to charge in and bite down on his back. Kindlepaw. But unfortunately, she had gotten away. Quickly composing himself, Cedarwhisper rushed off to remove evidence of his inclusion with the murder of the two toms, blaming it on a rogue attack.
He almost regretted making those changes from the mournful yowls of Hillpaw’s parents, but he knew he needed to continue onwards. As he headed to the Cavern of Stars, he felt a prick of anxiety at his paws. What if his crimes were exposed there? Would he need to get rid of the medicine cat, too?
As he thought about how he could do such a thing, the sky clouded over and started to rain. When they tried to start the ceremony, Cedarwhisper was only welcomed by blackness, and a broken star on his forehead when he awoke.
He tried to ignore the feeling of his stomach dropping as he understood what message Starclan was sending. He tried to send out search patrols for Kindlepaw so he could....properly deal with the loose apprentice, but nobody ever found her.
That is, not until a fire started up in Gladeclan, where Kindlepaw found him first. In a bloody fight, Kindlepaw sent them both careening down into the flames with the last of her strength, and Cedarwhisper suddenly came to the realization that perhaps, he had ruined himself as the flames swallowed him whole.

--Submission by @umbranoxs
--Despite being rather thin looking, he’s pretty strong and well muscled.
--I (Umbra) was listening to “Open up your eyes” while making this backstory so that’s where his whole thing about doing things himself and not wanting friends came from. Neat!
--Cedarwhisper doesn’t care if you refer to him as -whisper or -star. He refers to himself as Cedarstar, but sometimes accidentally slips up and calls himself Cedarwhisper.
--Woolstar just wanted Cedar to lighten up a little- He hoped that having his own apprentice and getting to see the Clan from the eyes of a deputy would make him understand others more. It didn’t work.
--Unaware Kindlepaw went to the Dark Forest, he would be mildly surprised if he knew but make a note to try not to find her- He has a feeling he knows it’d end with bloodshed and he’d prefer not to kill her. (Yes, he would kill her if she tried to attack him).
--Trying to find a spot of the Dark Forest he can have to himself, so he doesn’t have to deal with others. He’d like the eternal solitude (he thinks).
--Bastard boy bastard.

Lore:
You killed them | Short Story
“You.”
Cedarstar looked up from grooming his pelt, his eyes focusing on a certain tortie pelt. Kindlepaw. Her voice was laced with hatred, fear, and her amber eyes were wide like golden moons. “You as well.” The former leader adjusted his position, looking down upon Kindlepaw who glared back. It was a couple of seconds before either said anything, the two just silently staring as the scent of smoke filled the air, burning at their nose and eyes before finally Cedarstar spoke again. “I’m simultaneously surprised and not surprised that you found your way down here.” He said, his gaze narrowed. “It was a mistake I’m here!” Kindlepaw protested as she unsheathed her claws, “I’m a hero- You would’ve ruined Gladeclan!” the she-cat hissed with complete venom in her voice. Cedarstar rolled his eyes at Kindlepaw’s growls, sitting down comfortably. Or at least as comfortably you could be in the Dark Forest.
“You ruined my life- You ruined Hillpaw’s future, you ruined evERYONE-”
“‘Ruined’ is a strong word, you little arsonist.” He growled as he stood up after such a short rest, taking a couple strides forward. “If anything, you ruined Gladeclan with your little fire plan.” “Wh- You.. Liar! We were the only cats hurt!” Cedarstar’s fur bristled. “Really? Explain that to your mother, because the flames kept her from being able to escape a falling log.” He hissed, watching the apprentice freeze. “Or your brother who nearly burned alive trying to save what was left of her.” He circled around Kindlepaw, who kept a terrified glare. “I…” “What about your clanmates? Did you not hear their screams?”
Cedarstar was normally a very calm cat, but seeing Kindlepaw get so caught up in her hero complex… It made him angry. The she-cat crouched in place, her voice a quiet hiss. Cedarstar glared down at Kindlepaw. “T.. I thought they were just panicking!” “You killed innocent cats, Kindlepaw. You killed more than I ever did.” He crouched down to be eye-to-eye, hissing the words as Kindlepaw covered her face in her paws- Choked sobs starting to come from the shaky tortoiseshell as Cedarstar glared. Quite pathetic for a murderer. “You deserve to be here just as much as I do.-” He finished, but before he could even breathe in- Kindlepaw suddenly screamed, raising her face to the sky with a mournful shriek.
Cedarstar flinched and took a step back, staring at the screaming apprentice before noticing shivering leaves, the sound of rustling coming closer frantically. ‘Whatever happens to you, happens,’ He thought as he turned tail, rushing through the trees. ‘You killed them, and now you’ll pay the price.’

Cedarstar traumatizes a kid even more at 8. I imagine the rustling at the end might be Lightning or Red, perhaps?
Been trying to get back my mojo so I can worked on some owed art, and I rushed this symmetry thing of Cedarstar, using lyrics from Jubyphonic’s “Revenge Cover” of Superhero! Lowkey, I feel it’s a song that fits Kindlepaw if she was a bit more in the hero complex. (Ft.Woolstar and Hillpaw,, they kind of look similar silhouette wise so I just had the awful idea of “What if Cedarstar killed Hillpaw’s grandpa in front of him. What if the last thing Hillpaw saw was his grandpa losing his last life while Kindlepaw nearly lost an eye”)
Anyways. Cedarstar content for you to give you more reason to hate this guy. Sorry if this needs an eyestrain warning or such!

Story:
It was supposed to be the best couple of moons of Kindlepaw’s life. After all, everyone seemed to talk so highly of back when they were an apprentice! Being so full of life and eager to learn!
Hillpaw and her were best buds ever since they opened their eyes, and they had gotten apprenticed together. They planned their whole lives together, knowing that they would certainly be best friends forever!
And yet, Cedarwhisper was so full of hatred for how “flimsy” the leader ran the Clan. They never understood why Cedarwhisper hated Woolstar so much, but one night they and Hillpaw couldn’t sleep because of how excited they were after their first hunt. The Clan was becoming smaller, and everyone seemed to surge the two apprentices with praises from the successful hunt. They were so excited, so happy!
And then they heard angry murmurs from the leader’s den. And what were the two, if not curious? Hillpaw and Kindlepaw silently creeped over to the leader’s den with her best friend going first, the source of the anger growing louder, and louder.
She heard a splash hit the ground, a gasp that sounded like choking and a thud. She froze, and Hillpaw looked horrified. She tried to creep closer, only to recoil as Hillpaw suddenly got yanked in by his scruff. She panicked, trying to stay hidden but creeped closer; close enough to see Woolstar’s bleeding out body, and Hillpaw struggling to get away from Cedarwhisper.
The deputy was digging his claws into Hillpaw’s neck, drawing blood, keeping the apprentice from even breathing. Kindlepaw didn’t know what to do except, and when she saw, she lunged and sank her fangs into Cedarwhisper’s back, which caused them to let go of Hillpaw, but they quickly turned on her. Raising their claws, they slashed down on her face, making a nasty, and permanent scar.
She looked at Hillpaw, seeing her friend’s eyes glazed over. She couldn’t tell if he was even alive or not, prompting her to scratch at Cedarwhisper one more time before running for her life. She had no idea how far she had ran, she just knew she had left Gladeclan’s camp and immediately hated herself for not yowling for help.
Filled with guilt, Kindlepaw remained outside of Clan territory for moons using the little info she knew to stay alive. She wanted revenge for Hillpaw’s sake, she wanted her mom and dad, she just wanted to feel safe again.
Many nights she spent trying to figure out how she could save her Clan from Cedarwhisper’s clutches, imagining how cruel life must be now that Cedarwhisper was Cedarstar. Surely they’d wipe out Gladeclan with how they ruled, or something much worse!
The little apprentice’s imagination got the better of her, as she became terrified for her family. She needed to be a hero, and save Gladeclan! So as she searched for a way to end Cedarstar once and for all, she found her answer.
Twolegs were camping out in the fields nearby Gladeclan’s territory, and with it they brought a small fire. Kindlepaw thought it was strange, but she suddenly got an idea. Taking a stick, she set the edge of it ablaze and ran off towards Gladeclan territory.
She didn’t mean for the fire to become so big, though. In her rush, she’d accidentally bring the fire too close to leaves and dead branches, which then caused the flames to spread. By the time she got near Gladeclan camp, the fire had beaten her there. Cats were evacuating, but one tawny-and-brown pelt stood out to her--Cedarstar.
It was her time to get revenge, and be a hero! She yowled angrily, catching the leader’s attention as she rushed towards them.
Of course, she couldn’t last in a fight against a trained warrior. So instead, as she bled out from injuries, she used the last of her strength and tackled them-- sending them both down into the flames below. As the fire crackled and welcomed more fuel, she tried to hold back tears of pain as she thought about how excited she was to see Hillpaw again in Starclan.
Additional Information:
--Submission by @umbranoxs
--She ended up severely injuring Sunpaw in the fire, alongside killing Robinwind. She isn’t aware of this or any of the other deaths she caused.
--She often carries around sharp sticks she finds because she’s scared of literally everyone in the Dark Forest (except for maybe the kits and some other apprentices) and worries they might try to hurt her.
--Cedarstar didn’t have his nine lives due to Starclan refusing to give him them, so that’s how he was able to die in the fire.
--Kindlepaw was based off of an RP and the song Hayloft 2. Her whole arsonist part came from Hayloft 2, but her origins are heavily based off of the RP. Cool!
--She’s often trying to find a way to Starclan, desperately believing she doesn’t belong in the Dark Forest.
--Cedarstar went to the Dark Forest as well, neither know the other is there yet but if they did they’d probably try to kill each other
--Unbelievably Stressed please help her
I'm obsessed with Kindle rn and I blame y'all here at the DF /j /lh
Robinwind probably had to be stopped from entering the DF again once she learnt about Cedarstar's bullshit LMAO
