[Monjardinier végète…] « Chaque arbre à une histoire… »

 Parlons d’un arbre un peu spécial, l’arbre de ma fille Mellou. Pour satisfaire son rêve de petite princesse, elle me demanda de lui trouver un arbre rose.

« Mais pas un arbre qui fleurit rose papa, c’est trop facile, je veux un arbre qui a des feuilles roses ! ».

La nature étant bien faite, son rêve fut exaucé par la magnificence du Cedrela Sinensis Flamingo.

Le Cedrela, que l’on appelle aussi Toona, Margousier, Acajou de Chine, Cèdre de Chine, Chinese mahogany, est un arbre caduc trop méconnu à mon goût. De la famille des Meliaceae, d’un port érigé, d’une croissance rapide, caduc, sa taille relativement réduite, environ 10 mètres, permet son implantation dans les plus petits jardins.

Souvent, on lit qu’il apprécie les expositions ensoleillées. Par expérience, les situations mi-ombre, protégées du vent en sol frais, riche, sont idéales pour profiter au mieux de sa splendeur.

Ses feuilles imparipennées, de couleur rose vif au printemps, puis rose clair, virant au blanc crème avant d’être vert durant la saison estivale, se colorent une dernière fois à l’automne avant d’entrer dans un repos végétatif bien mérité, après avoir été si généreux avec la rétine.

Squaring a block of cedrela from tonetech luthier supplies with my axminster jack plane. After an hour of regrinding the chip breaker to be flush with the blade, and honing the blade this is a really good plane for £27. I had it set thick to get those shavings, but set to fine you can get a level piece of cedar quickly with this thing.

In the background is my rosewood back, which is proving to be a total nightmare to thickness. It requires attack from multiple directions and it tears out constantly. I am going to get this down to 2.5-3mm and finish it with my 2 scrapers, even if it does take hours.
