RELEASE THE NEXT CELEHAR BOOK
AND MY LIFE
IS YOURS
This was sparked by my recent re-read of The Witness for the Dead by Katherine Addison. I love the relationship between Celehar and Pel-Thenhior, whether it turns out to be romantic or not. Something I found myself really noticing on this re-read was that every single time Celehar shows up to talk to him about the investigation, Pel-Thenhior sees him and breaks into a smile, even when he's just been arguing with one of his singers. He enjoys Celehar's company and is always genuinely happy to see him, which is something Celehar badly needs more of in his life.
I didn't quite remember his back story well since it's been so long since I read that book. Opening the first page of the Witness for the dead, I'm kind of expect to continue Maia's story but no. Who is this Celehar? Yep that one queer character with a tragic past. I remembered that much so I picked book I up again to refresh my memory. Reread one chapter. That "unnatural" comment from Maia I did not quite remember that. My memory was he was not judgemental of Celehar and was quite supportive. Anyway, Celehar's back story was truly sad. I'm not quite past the first chapter but I'm hoping for a happy and successful life for this guy already.
Already been done? :9
I love Celehar because I too am married to my work, gay, and extremely tired
Reading this was just to procrastinate on other more important tasks until the first case deceptively easy conclusion and I was so hooked. I mean the kind of easy, go with the flow reading experience until you realized you can not put tje book down. Blame it in the coffee I had in the afternoon or the plot which continue to pour mysteries and misfortunes upon poor Celehar. (This man is too good for this world, why did everyone keep taking advantage of his kindness? Ugh! Have a care for your self for once!) And them came a direct observation from his friend about him not caring if he die doing his job. Whoa, that I did feel something was off about all these but I was also not surprised. I love this book more than I expected to. The story is different from Maia's but I don't mind at all. Now I'm at 37% and rooting very hard for Celehar! Guess I have a type for this kind of character.
Thara Celehar
“He was younger than Maia had expected, no more than ten years older than his imperial patroness. But Maia had never seen a man who looked so ill and tired.”
He was unsurprisingly one of my faves and I want to scoop up this tragic moon priest and ensure the poor man eats and sleeps. He didn’t come out quite like I wanted but it’s a good start.
