Okay so I was a bad astronomer last night because I was too exhausted to stay up to watch the SpaceX launch live, but I sure woke up in a hurry this morning when I saw on my Insta stories that there was a special little passenger in the capsule!

In case you didn’t immediately recognize it like I did, it’s a plushy Earth by Celestial Buddies! We’ve been huge fans of Celestial Buddies for years now and we carry the entire collection of plushies at the BOOTHtique wherever we go. The are not only adorable, but awesome teaching tools too - I personally use my Earth, Moon, and Sun all the time when I talk to kids. And if I could go to low Earth orbit, you better believe I’d be using one as my zero g indicator too. ;)

One of my favorite non-profit organizations to work with is DreamWakers. They operate on the belief that “if you can see it, you can be it.” Their mission is to use free and existing video technology (e.g., Google Hangouts) to connect professionals working in any/all fields to classrooms across the country. They work specifically with 4th - 12th grade classes at schools where 50% or more of the student body is eligible for free or reduced lunches.

Seeing as how this Earth plushy is all over the internet thanks to the Space X launch yesterday, today seemed like the perfect time for my “Sunday Selfie” post featuring my very own Celestial Buddies. In addition to Earth, I also have the Sun and the Moon (not pictured), and I love to use them whenever I talk to kids because they are not only adorable but they make excellent teaching tools as well. And really, who doesn’t want to hug the planet every now and then? 

Of course, with all the press its been getting, the Earth is now sold out, but as Emily tweeted: there’s also the bigger and better Precious Earth version - grab one while they last!

These photos are from before the August 2017 solar eclipse, hence the Earth and Sun making a guest appearance. Also captured is my “Perfect Alignment” necklace by Eclectic Eccentricity. ;)

Zelah has really been into the solar system & planets lately so I knew she would love the 🌍 earth and 🌞 sun gifted from @celestialbuddies. These soft plushies are part of the collection of 15 other #celestialbuddies. What a wonderful way to teach Zelah some #funfacts of each celestial buddy. They each have a little booklet attached that gives all sorts of interesting info to learn and talk about. NASA has turned today into #BlackHoleFriday, and we love it! We’ve been posting our own black hole favorites on Twitter, and here’s a special new one - the Black Hole from Celestial Buddies!

The newest Celestial Buddy is a soft sack large enough to store the entire plush Solar System! Unlike a real black hole, you’ll be able to remove the planets again, too. Remember, black holes don’t suck!
