BBCiplayer recently produced an exclusive series of short films featuring 5 women performing spoken word poetry (spitting) about things important to them. Each & every one of them is amazing & deals with issues such as, lack of role models in the media, depression, homelessness, body image, objectification & self worth. I was particularly blown away by Vanessa Kisuule’s, ‘Take Up Space’; a call for all women to stop shrinking themselves. It begins with the lines, “Take up space, don’t wait for permission or approval. Don’t let ghostly question marks haunt the ends of your sentances…” & just gets better & more inspiring as it goes on. These films are about 5 mins long & are available on BBCiplayer. I’m going to post a link to youtube though, so hopefully it’ll be viewable in other countries (?)
