Celia Windward is a Black (Jamaican) heroine, the majestic Jet; chosen by the Guardians of the Universe to help usher in a new, ascended era for humankind, she initially rejected their offer, holding some disdain for costumed superheroes; yet, the looming threat proved too much for her to ignore & she embraced her heroic potential among her fellow New Guardians (getting cosmically granted powers of electromagnetic manipulation powers in the process); in time, she would move on to ally w/ an even larger group of international heroes, the Global Guardians!

Episode 3.03: Birds with Black Gloves

Carlotta reveals her personal history in the African country of Bilaya, as her mom was trafficked to the country’s president by an organization called the Black Glove. She asks for her friends’ assistance in ending the local trade. An earthquake machine similar to the one that wrecked Star City several years ago appears in London, prompting Maya to introduce the Birds to her powerful allies, lovers Jet and Gloss. Nyssa and Dinah realize that they are attracted to each other romantically.

Black Female Superhero: Jet aka Celia Windward

Jet is a woman who was one of the "chosen" by the extra terrestrial Guardians and Zamorans to become a super-human being to usher in the new millennium. First a member of the Guardians and later the leader of the newly created Global Guardians.Jet fought many foes, but contracted HIV fighting the "Hemo-Goblin". As her symptoms worsened into full-blown AIDS, she used her last bit of energy to repel an alien invasion, an act which claimed her life. Jet has the ability to generate various forms of electromagnetic waves, such as microwaves, to use for a variety of uses. She can fly by "riding" the natural electromagnetic field of the Earth. When she uses her powers, her hair resembles green flames.
