Yesterday I brought my cello on campus to self-record in the fancy studios, and one of my friends who is also a composer and a cellist offered to help me run stuff. So since he was there anyway I was like "if I arrange Pinna Park from Super Mario Sunshine for 2 cellos do you want to play it with me" and his response was "say less".

He basically sight-read the part day-of and neither of us have ever played together before so yknow it's, um, not perfect. But it WAS very very very fun. And this was mostly an excuse to practice recording more, and I DO think that the recording came out very nice! We used an XY stereo pair and 2 spot mics.

(I might eventually actually comp together a better take and do some mixing, but for now I'm like screw it, here's one of the takes, enjoy)

Here's that cello duet I kept blabbering on about! I experimented with the phrases and trying to apply some of the thing I've learned in music theory.  I think I am improving as a songwriter but I still have much to learn. Constructive criticism is appreciated and thank you for listening!

Dream of Cello Duet

To my great Joy, Leah also decided to carry on with our cello adventure.

I found out the news from a blog post Leah put up while I was still in China. The firewall there made the internet connection to our cello blog on the Tumblr site quite a wobbly experience. I normally can get to our site without any hiccups. When Leah hinted to me in one of her Wechat messages that she had a surprise for me in her latest blog post, I was intrigued and went online straightaway. And guess what? Exactly as  Murphy's law states: "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong".  I just couldn’t get to the page. The browser kept showing ‘loading…..loading…..”   I tried several times and finally got through.  

And here is the good news: Leah will continue her cello adventure.  

  So we are now one step closer to our cello duet dream.

My cello teacher and I are playing a duet tonight and I was wondering if anyone wanted me to post pictures of it later (I would post a video, but alas, my camera does not take video).
