The Celtic people were deeply aligned with nature and believed trees had spiritual connections to ancestors, deities, and the Celtic Otherworld, as well as providing food, shelter, warmth and homes for wildlife.
When a piece of land was cleared, a single tree would be left, the crann berthed, to take care of all life on Earth.
Trees were seen as having connections with, and providing doorways to, spirits, deities and ancestors. The Celtic word for ‘Oak’ is ‘daur’, meaning ‘door’ in our modern tongue.
The Celtic knot of the Tree of Life, therefore, symbolises the interconnectedness of the spiritual realm, earth and all living things. 💙💙
