IT’S TIME FOR A WILD THEORY!

I think that Cenokier’s wife was killed by a dragon, possibly a member of the conclave, maybe even Thordak himself. It sounds a little weird, but I think it could be true.

* When asked about Thordak Cinokier's first reaction is to ask that Vox Machina keeps him away from the fire plane.

* He states that he "doesn't trust dragons", implying that he’s had dealings with them before

* He asks Vox Machina to take care of his wife's funeral arrangements in return for his aid.

*He knew where Thordak spent most of his time while on the fire plane.

It could be that the mention of the Cinder King bought those memories back to the forefront of his mind, and he decided to do away with his wife's ashes now that a group of heroes unknowingly said that they would take down something that, if not his wife's actual killer, would have been something of a reminder of her death. idk, I just REALLY like this guy and think this fits.
