Tonight’s ambience. A long time ago I bought a few of these for a portable grill. Shortly thereafter learned that they’re not recyclable and not rated to be refilled. I switched to a small but refillable tank (5lbs). So what to do with the bottles? Still burning off the propane with this @snowpeakusa lamp. Today’s lunch break topic is NFC tags. NFC is the tech you’re using when you tap a credit card, phone, watch etc, and it does something like transfer money. But what happens when you tap can be virtually anything. And NFC tags, like the white disk above are inexpensive. I found myself looking up various conversions repeatedly, so I stuck the URL of the webpage I was using in a tag, and then placed a sticker to hold it in place. I was in a rush, and no one else needs to find it, so there are no design affordances to help find it. But if you know where, all it takes is a tap. Also, there’s no spare wall space, and I got tired of losing the scribbled notes I made again and again. When you tap it you get something like the second pic. Last pic is the sticker over the tag. There are other ways to do all sorts of actions triggered by a tag, but they’re not as easy to share. This particular action (go to a web address) is “public”.
