Are you crazy or are you high?
Alcor (M Centitaur/centidrider/ half man half centipede) & Titha (F Human)
Copper, iron, gun smoke, and dark magic burned his nose enough to make his head hurt, but it didn’t matter as he glared gleefully down at the dead Drider with the pointy head. He was no supposed to be his opponent, but he’d gotten too cocky and thought he would show off to his people and everyone else that was watching how powerful he was. He was a weak king and died quickly with just one bash of his fist and all that mattered was that the scary drider with the pointy head couldn’t hurt him anymore. His blood pumped in his veins and his whole body vibrated with the adrenaline rush that ran through him as Alcor realized he no longer had to fight anymore. He was free!
The screams of terror all around him was overshadowed by his soul calling for his freedom. His hundreds of legs carried him as fast and as far away as he could from the castle, barging through the wooden doors and not even paying attention to the pointy sticks and sharp arrows that bounced off his hardened black armor plates along his body. Alcor wouldn’t fight anymore, all he wanted was to leave this horrible place that wreaked of rot and death and misery. He was so tired of fighting, so tired of living, so tired of the hunger that threatened to take away his life that he fought so hard to keep. Alco won more fights than anyone else, he deserved to finally be free!
“Free, free, free!” He chanted wildly to himself as he stormed past all the screaming people that wanted him dead. All four of his hands clawed their way forward to both defend him from attackers as well as to take his freedom with his own hands. He could smell the fresh air of the forest as he drew closer to the gates, but they were quickly masked with the smoky green fires that the knights used to make Alco go back to his cage. He roared and shook his head as he could feel the smoke making him sleepy. He would get past the green fire. He would not stay here anymore. “No! Alco will leave!”
Screams of terror and rage echoed loudly all around him and he shook his head angrily to shake the noise from his ears. He needed to get away from this place. Charging forward, he burst through the brick wall that tried to keep him locked in and dove headfirst into the purple mists. The chains on his wrists and a few of his tangled feet clattered around him, but he didn’t dare stop. He ran and ran and ran until he found a tree wide enough to support his long body and tangled himself around it, clutching it with all his strength. His limbs trembled, his hearts raced, his lungs screamed for air, but he was free. After years of fighting for the chance to leave and return to his family he was stolen from, Alcor was finally free. His eyes burned and for the first time in years he felt like he could return home; wherever that was. His joy was fleeting as the adrenaline rush faded and the realization of his lack of knowledge of where he was from and where he was to go came crashing in on him. However, he didn’t have much time to think on it as his stomach made itself painfully aware with its grumbling and made him dizzy.
“Food. . .” He groaned as his eyes searched frantically for something of any substance to eat. His antennae lifted in the air he caught a strange sweet scent in the air that left his mouth watering and his stomach painfully empty. “Need food. . .”
Without so much as a second thought, he wove from tree branch to tree branch chasing after the scent when he found a trove of glowing mushrooms in a hole in a tree. He should have known by their pink glowing aura that these were not meant to be eaten, but he was so hungry after being starved all week, it did not matter. He shoved the mushrooms into his mouth by the handfuls until they were all gone and even nibbled on the hole of the tree to suck some of the sweet flavor. The mushrooms melted easily on his tongue and he chirped happily as his stomach stopped hurting. Licking his fingers of the remains, his hands suddenly moved without his wanting to, and he found it very difficult to remain upright on the branches. While his legs still firmly clung to the tree, his head dipped forward and he was draped over the side seeing all sorts of strange colors and wobbly shapes in the purple mists. His arms felt strangely heavy and he allowed them to dangle over his head as his entire world was upside down and he was amazed by it all.
As the world spun and spiraled before his eyes, he was certain that he saw more glowing mushrooms when he heard a twig snap. While a part of him knew he needed to worry in case the knights had come to collect him, he did not detect their scent on the mists and paid it no mind until an bronze skinned human female dressed in a purple cloak with strange circles over their eyes and carrying a strange but pleasant scent suddenly walked on the ceiling of the forest floor as approached him. His eyes widened in awe at her and he couldn’t figure out how she could walk upside down. She had a basket over her arm with more mushrooms and Alcor’s eyes widened as he crooned towards her. She gasped in awe and tilted her head in curiosity and adjusted the circle glasses on her face.
“By the stars above, are you all right?”
Alcor liked her eyes, they were warm like the trees in summer and had golden stars in them behind the circle glasses on her face. He wanted to grab her face to properly look into them like she was looking at him. Her tight curls were like the Spanish moss that grew in the trees all around him and as he took a deep breath, sage and mushrooms seemed to follow her curvy figure as she approached him. Alcor tried to ask her if he could have her mushrooms, but his tongue felt funny and the words didn’t work and could barely chirp at her and felt his grip slightly slipping from the tree.
“Oh dear, I don’t know how long you’ve been upside down for, but I don’t think that’s very good for you.” She bit back a smile and set her basket down and Alcor’s eyes remained on the basket. She had a whole bunch of mushrooms of different shapes and colors and he wanted to know what they tasted like. He tried to reach his hand out to at least point to the basket, but his limbs refused to cooperate with him and felt extremely heavy and he grunted in his frustration.
“My, my, aren’t you a sad sight.” She clicked her tongue in disapproval and shook her head at him. “It smells like someone ate a whole bunch of the glowing mushrooms.”
He chittered happily and nodded his head in the hopes she would give him more, however, he wasn’t sure how she was keeping them in the basket when everything was upside down. He wanted to be able to walk upside down too, but his body was too heavy.
“Are you crazy?” She huffed and dared to get closer to him and grabbed one of his hands and he loved how warm if felt. “Or are you high? Didn’t your mother tell you not to put weird things in your mouth?”
If Alcor’s mouth would have worked, he would have told her no and that he hardly remembered his mother, but instead his eyes had gone from the basket of mushrooms to her hand holding one of his. Her hands were so small compared to his that he captured it entirely in his own when he curled his fingers. His eyes widened and he felt strangely warm as he did so, and a bubble of laughter escaped her, and his antennae shivered in delight. His eyes drifted to her face so he could see the smile on her face, and he wanted more. He tried to move another one of his arms so he could reach out and touch her hair, however, his body still didn’t want to cooperate.
“You okay big fella? You don’t look so good.” She asked softly as she reached for his face and gingerly tilted his head so everything was right side up. “How’s about we get you down from there, hm? See if we can’t get you on your feet. Can you try getting closer to me?”
Still holding his hand, she gently pulled him away from the tree and the rest of his body unwove itself from the trunk of the tree and touched to the ground. With his head more upright than downright he felt less heavy and less groggy, but everything around him was still super warpy and wobbly.
“Easy there, big fella, take it slow.” She shushed and chided him as she reached out for his lower left hand. “We’re not in a rush. Baby steps now, we don’t want all those legs of yours getting tangled up, now do we?”
Alcor mindless nodded in agreement even though he was certain his legs weren’t tangled and found he couldn’t look away from her. She was the only thing he could focus on and he didn’t want to look away from her. She had a really pretty voice and Alcor wanted her to keep talking. She was so small and warm, and he wished his body would listen to him so he could pick her up and hug her to breath in her pretty scent. He purred at the thought and felt his antennae bob heavily atop his head as he looked down at her.
“There we are, all the way off the tree.” She cooed encouragingly at him once he was finally off the tree. “I bet that feels better, huh?” She released his hands to move around him to get a better look at him, but Alcor managed to get enough control of his body to reach out for her to stop her from moving away from him. He chirruped unhappily at her and unsteadily bent his torso down to her to look her in the eyes.
“Whoa there, big fella.” She held a finger out and touched the tip of his nose with it. “Don’t go moving too fast now or you’ll make yourself sick.” That same hand reached under his chin and held his face still and peered into his eyes. Her touch was so warm that he couldn’t help but purr in delight at the comfort it filled him with and pressed his face more into her palm.
“Your eyes as soooooo dilated.” She clicked her tongue as she somehow managed to keep the world from spinning by holding him still. “I can’t even tell what’s your sclera and what’s your irises. . .” Her lower lip poked out into a small pout and Alcor found a new focus on her pretty face and really wanted to see if she tasted as good as she smelled. “Where’s home for you, big fella? Do you think you can make it there on your own?”
“N – Noooo home.” He frowned as he shook his head and pulled back slightly. His tongue still felt heavy in his mouth but he somehow managed to speak and swayed slightly as he tried to stand to his full height. “Alcor freeeeeeeeee.”
“Oooh, okaaayyyy.” Her brows rose and she nodded her head while biting back a smile and Alcor wanted to see her smile. “Alcor’s free, huh?”
He chirruped happily at her saying his name and loomed closer to her. “Alcor free.”
“So I see.” She snorted and looked at something behind him and her face pinched. Trying to figure out what she was looking at, Alcor twisted his body around to see something too, but only saw his long body and frowned. There were the sharp speaks and a few of the arrows bedded in his armor plates, but he couldn’t feel them. Slightly worried about that, he wiggled some of his body and some of the chains on his feet rattled and he felt a few twinges of pain rippling down his back. “Oh, oh, you poor thing. . . you came from the castle, didn’t you?”
He turned back to her, his eyes wide and feeling a sudden wave of nervousness when he saw her eyes practically watering at the mention. “You don’t look like you’ve eaten in ages; you can’t have if you were eating glowing mushrooms.”
As if prompted, his stomach growled angrily and left a deep ache there. He placed one of his hands over his stomach and nodded his head as he looked at the woman. “Alcor hungry.”
“Well, Alcor.” She bent and picked up her basket of mushrooms and held one of his hands. “Would you like to come home with Titha?”
“Tithhhaaa?” His words slurred slightly as he looked at her.
“Ti - tha.” She enunciated slowly for him. “That’s my name.”
“Tee-tha. . .”
“No, not ‘tea’, ‘ti’, long ‘i’,” She corrected gently and smiled up at him. “Titha.”
“Titha.” He hummed happily and his antennae flicked happily and liked the way it sounded. “It’s pretttyyy. . . like you. . . .”
“Big ole charmer, aren’t you?” She smiled so big that he saw she had dimples and he wanted to hold them in his hand. “Well, Alcor, what do you say? You want to come home with me and get something filling in you, big fella?”
“Yessss.” He nodded his head and nodded a little too fast because he was quickly nose diving to the ground and it was only Titha catching his face in her soft warm hands that kept him from falling flat on his face. He purred happily and smiled up at her as his face was enraptured in both of her small warm hands.
“Easy there, big fella.” She chuckled up at him. “Think you can follow me home if I hold your hand? It’s a little ways away, but I have a nice pot of stew that I just know you’ll love that’ll fill that skinny frame of yours up while I see what I can do about getting those arrows out of your back.”
Alcor nodded his head and somehow managed to straighten his wobbly spine and curled his long fingers in her hand. “Mushrooms in the stew?”
I know this is a little short, a teaser if you will, but I wanted to keep it on the sweet side of things while I figure out a few more kinks to the story. If you liked this and would want to see more, please leave me a comment and tell me what you think! Please give this story some love and reblog!
