The woody woody-based perennial Centranthus ruber (red valerian, fox's brush, German lilac, pretty Betsy, Spanish valerian, spur valerian, Jupiter's beard, kiss-me-quick) is perfect for a free-draining soil and will even grow in a stone wall. The flowers can be crimson, pink or white and arise from grey-green leaves.
