From Scudder (H E), The book of fables and folk stories (1882/1919), “The travelling musicians”, p156. Illustration by J. Maurice aka “Zippy”. The quartet of animals is singing at the window in order to roust some thieves, who have taken over a travelling musician‘s house in the absence of its owner. Ore of the thieves can be glimppsed in the window, looking startled and unhappy. The thieves being rousted, the animals then take over the house themselves.
