Urban Space and Architecture - The City Quartier Hottingen is characterised by a great homogeneity. This is less due to a continuous development structure, as the quality of open spaces: formative for the quarter are the street spaces, gardens and some old trees. By contrast, the buildings include both individual villas, solitary apartment buildings as well as large-scale public works.
This urban situation can be found in the project perimeter and the task again: a street-based Villa is related to a small studio building and a larger multi-family house inside the wooded land.
Formally, the house searches therefore less proximity to the surrounding buildings and their classical vocabulary but rather to natural forms or ruins, that architectural form, which is the natural forms closest.
Apartments: Figure and chamber - The house consists of three full floors and an attic. The four apartments on one floor are each slightly offset to one another in their altitude, which is possible due to the vertical indexing and the plasticity and verticality of the building body strengthens. The two standard floors N + 1 and N + 2 are identical, only slightly modified the mezzanine floor to the attic and reduces the number of apartments on three.
The apartment layouts or analogue design of the building a soft, situationally specific geometric grammar. Typologically oscillate the plans between "figure and chamber": the open space character with living, dining and kitchen area can be understood as the dissolution of a cabinet structure that is different than communal lounge of the cellular space chambers of individual rooms respectively delimits. The flowing space figure has impetus to different facades, creating views in several directions. In formulating the facade settlement optimal exposure and sunlight is achieved to all dwellings. The ceiling height is 2.80 metres.
Materiality and expression - The new building is constructed in a conventional solid construction. The facades are insulated exterior and dressed with ceramic panels, a durable material and offered with warranty system construction. As a flooring Terrazzo is used.
The changing time of day reflections and shades of dark green ceramics counterpoint the relative massiveness and heaviness of the body. Reply as textile acting dress the fairing to the folds in the facade: occur as between reared curtains, bright anodized aluminum windows out and give the house its distinctive, stylish urban address.
