Studio Day - Clay
Ceramics has been something i’ve always wanted to do as I’m in love with the idea of creating a physical piece that I would also use on a daily basis. It is also something that I would like to do as a little business and sell my own ceramics making candle holders, flower pots and different types of ceramics. But of course we start small so I am starting with making candle holders.
I began with sketching some pieces that relate to my theme of walking through a forest so I drew a mushroom with tiny arms. I played around with different shapes starting with a circle although I wasn't a fan of the circle shape so I made it a bit more rectangle like and added some features.
Making The Top Of The Mushroom!
First I started by cutting off a bit of clay , just to fit into my palms and made it into a ball. Then I pressed my thumb down the middle using a “pinching” technique my professor thought me that day, I loved this process so much because its fast and very useful if u want to make a bowl like shape! I have to admit I didn't like how it first ended out like. I restarted it and the second time it ended up being better. Ive learnt that if you apply very little pressure while holding it , you get a much more smoother and nicer shape to it.
After that I used a tool that had a hollow circle on it and I’ve used that to make the holes on the top of it to bring the light through.
( not my illustration , just from google I found it was cute! )
