KAITO KID STRIKES AGAIN!

Leo stared at the headline of the newspaper and sighed. “More petty crime? Seems you just can’t escape it no matter what. All those thieves are nothing but lowly scum just vying for attention.” Frustration tinged his words. He had only ever met one good thief, so that made Niles the exception, not the rule. Even then, Niles pushed it sometimes.

Leo set down the paper and looked up. “Ah yes, do you need something?” He tried to smile as he tried to pull away the paper from the stranger’s eyes. Leo had a habit of reading on the job, but he didn’t want most of the world to know it.

Leo wove through the crowd, leafing through the book he was recently given. For being written for children, it was engaging. At this point, he’d actually be upset if the pig was slaughtered. However, as he neared the end, he stopped. Unfortunately, he stopped in the middle of the road.

“But that can’t.... Why would that happen to her?” He had no knowledge of the danger he was in, just standing in the middle of the road.

Wow, your armour is shiny, in a dark way~

“Er, thank you?” Leo had no idea how to react. People were more often than not put off by his armor. To have someone compliment it felt weird. “It’s really nothing special, just the armor for Dark Knights,” he said as he fidgeted with his collar inside-out.

“If you want to see something dark, you should see the Malig Knights with their undead wyve-forget I said anything.” He had momentarily forgotten that wyverns were not normal here.

“Selling my soul because of one broken vase? How is that fair?”

“Maybe you should have thought of that before you knocked down that vase. That’s public property, you know.” Not to mention he was the one who was going to have to explain its breaking to his boss. “Look, all I’m asking is that you help me catch up with putting all these books away.”

There weren’t many people in the stage magic track at MCPVA - read: Kaito was currently the only one - and so he tended to be lumped together with the other theatre majors when it came to curriculum. That was the only reason why he let himself be dragged to a weekend seminar at the university in Center Springs, and that was also the reason why he had snuck out not even fifteen minutes later, leaving a blown-up doll of himself to appease the professor.

Now, he just sat in one of the cafes on campus, scoping out the students and being even more disappointed in the scenery - so to speak - than he already was in the curriculum. Humming, he turned over to the closest guy who seemed to be minding his own business and complained.

“Hey, aren’t there any, y’know, girls around here? I’m pretty sure Plumpernickel has more hills than this campus does.”

Kaito has had a......history, with roller coasters. Not a particularly fond history, at that. However, he has fifty dollars on the line against a kid in the theatre department who thinks magic isn’t real acting, and he’s not going to lose this bet, no matter how petty - or irrelevant to the actual bet - the reason may be.

Sidling up to the guy manning what’s probably the most dangerous ride in the park, Kaito gently slides a dollar bill towards him and smirks.

“Hey, buddy, here’s a $50 tip if you get me on this ride as fast and dangerous as humanly possible.”
