Quick Facts
Bellatrix Black was born with pomp and circumstance. She was a beautiful baby girl born to one of the most, if not the most, influential pureblood family in the wizarding world. While she was an only child, her every whim was catered to. She didn’t want for anything, nor would she ever have reason to. If she had a request, it was picked up immediately. And when her sister Andromeda was born, the attention only expanded. Then Nariccsa after her. Every time another Black daughter was born, it seemed like the doting grew and grew along with their family.
She was a happy child, no one could doubt it. Pompous, sure. Egotistical, definitely. But genuinely happy. She laughed with her sisters and teased her cousins at every family gathering. And when her letter to Hogwarts finally came, she knew exactly how her story would go. She would be sorted into Slytherin, like her entire family before her. She would take her classes and excel, because she could accept nothing less than perfection. And she would forge connections that would help her continue her family lineage once she graduated. Her predictions came to pass. She was sorted into Slytherin almost the moment the hat touched her curly, dark hair, and she began to excel in her classes, particularly Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Transfiguration. As for the third idea, she knew she would be able to focus on that once the finally year of school rolled around.
Life doesn’t always go according to plan, however. During her seventh year, a man went to greet Dumbledore in his office, soon after Dumbledore was promoted to Headmaster. Word swirled around the Slytherin common room that this was the Tom Riddle. The one who had earned awards from the school, who had graduated top of his class, and who would certainly get whatever he was asking from Dumbledore. Curiosity got the best of Bellatrix, and she ventured out to wait outside of Dumbledore’s office, hoping to catch a glimpse of the legendary man. When Riddle finally left the headmaster’s office, Bellatrix could have sworn the ground shifter beneath her feet. The man standing before her was perfect in every single way: handsome, tall, Slytherin, and undeniably powerful. She walked with him until he left, promising to send her an owl, telling her he was intrigued by her.
After graduation, Bellatrix followed Tom Riddle’s instructions that she had been receiving over the past year, and fled to his side. He may have been years her senior, but there was something so intoxicating about him that she couldn’t help but love him. While her sister Andromeda denounced him, saying Bellatrix had fallen for a man she barely knew, Bellatrix knew better. She knew Tom Riddle would be the one to help her become all she could be and more. And besides it all, she knew whatever he asked of her she would do without thought. Such was the love that consumed her. She was convinced he loved her too. Why else would he call her to his side so often, and give her a tattoo by which to do it? Why else would he call her a dear friend, his best companion, and so many other things? Her sister was wrong, Bellatrix knew he loved her as much as she loved him.
A year into her time in the Death Eaters, Bellatrix is high up in the rankings within the group. She is called to Tom- now called Voldemort’s- side often, but still lives at her old family home, awaiting his next orders. Their plans are grand, she knows, but she knows he would never steer her wrong.
