“ louis... but can we? ... ” mary meant to say more, almost thought that she wanted to, but words could not convey what she felt. apprehension to an extent, but happiness overwhelmed it all. mary reaches for him, but slightly hesitant, almost curling her hand back onto herself. would it be the same? could it ever be? “ i want to. ” oh how mary knew that now, and she dared to step closer, hoping that she would be met with no rejection. “ i want to stay, for this one night. for so long i have wanted to. ”

   It was finally time. Despite the attack on her life at the convent, she was hopeful for her new arrangement with a child-like image that this match and engagement since they were six, would be one for the fairy tales. Mary had returned to her castle, in hopes that with an alliance to Prince Louis of Conde would secure her rule, and his as well.     She received word that Louis had made it to her homeland safely and unscathed. And as tradition serves, everyone gathered out in the courtyard, waiting the royal carriage like it was some spectacle for everyone to bare witness to. But rather it was, their Queen was soon meeting her fiance, in turn which could result in the King consort of Scotland.     She stood next to her mother, Mary de Guise, who ruled in her stead until recently where Mary de Guise is now giving her guidance in the right direction for Scotland, “I wonder what he’s like now. I remember him as a child, but people grow and mature.”
