Luffy’s reaction when Wyper tells him that Skypiea belongs to the Shandians really surprised me, because it’s actually polite, but not entirely fitting for the situation. He bows and says おじゃまします/ojamashimasu, which is a standard Japanese greeting phrase for when you enter somebody else’s home. It literally means something like ‘please excuse my disturbance.’

Luffy’s not really the type to know something like that, so I would bet actual money that Makino taught him to do this when he was like, six, that you always bow and say ojamashimasu to be polite when you're in somebody’s house, and he pulls it out now because he doesn’t understand the situation at all so he defaults to ‘OH i’m in a place that belongs to somebody else, time to use the magic polite words so i can continue on my way.’
