It is rare that he is what could be vaguely considered 'home', and yet she comes the very evening he returns. Which means she wants something. Which means it is a negotiation evening. Draco is in his second year, and already a terror to which Lucius would be proud. And yet, she is here and therefore wants something and therefore his automatic flick through masks lands on Friendly Negotiation.
He doesn't hate her. He didn't then, and he doesn't now. Hate is a strong word, and she is-- perhaps the best of a bad lot that also encompasses him. She is neutral, insofar as he doesn't disdain her as most of the others, but neither does he elevate her further than 'she whom I will be civil with in the name of long past tiny school debts that do not extend beyond the necessary.'
"If you've come to plead nepotism, you will leave disappointed." It's an even statement, spoken without bothering to look up from the book he flipped through despite the hanging near darkness of what could be considered a drawing room. "But by all means, go ahead."
