Hopper takes his hat off as he knocked on the door of the Byer's home. He had something to say and he knew that if he didn't do it now he'd never be able to. When Joyce opened it he looked down and cleared his throat. "I just need to tell you somethin and I need you to listen okay?" He felt his throat going dry. Maybe it would be better if he just showed her. "Let me just..." He nervously gripped his hat but then went for it.
Jim kissed Joyce and pulled back bracing himself for a harsh slap across his face.

It wasn’t out of the ordinary for Joyce to be alone at home. Her boys had lives of their own, even if that shook her to the core. Not long ago, she wouldn’t have bat an eyelash to a quiet home. Now—she worried constantly about where they were…specifically Will.
The knock at the door had her on high alert, dropping the remote and nearly leaping to answer it. At the sight of Hopper, obviously nervous— “What? What is it?” the panic rising in her voice.
But then he was kissing her. A full kiss. With a longing and need that she couldn’t remember experiencing since she was a teenager. Then it was done. Just like that he was backing up, leaving Joyce with her lips parted in confusion.
“What—what the hell was that, Hop?!” her brows contorting, shifting her shoulders up and down—her body didn’t know how to respond.
