an ode to my hands-down favorite characters, the heart and soul of my story, and worldbuilding ! did being The Worst™️ skip two generations, or have i just ignored beatriz's children? questions that doing a part v would answer ... anyway, citing my sources: my story description, this scene, the bible & trainspotting (1996), nahuatl, that generations statue post alyssa did, and the road to el dorado concept art.
some pictures for story posts that deserve a full post / family photos from the bancrofts and armendarizes (peep baby zurine), also featuring the lovely claudette & vivian from @thegrimalldis !!!!!

LMAO OMFG SDJFHKLKFSS why are u the best person on this site and the love of my life 😭😭😭😭😭 i think i'm now contractually obligated to reblog this from myself once a month
i love her. and i decided to answer the questions-for-characters asks in the form of scenes-with-journalists ... you know, in the interest of being Extra
I was rereading your Fashion is a Royal (and Family) Affair post and got to the part about Mother Zuriñe being a "master weaver in her own right." What does that mean for your world?
i keep forgetting to answer this !!!!!! wonderful question, and i'm touched that you read it that closely ♥️ i meant it in a sort of general sense—zuriñe has been weaving her entire life, and she's very good at it. however, i did think about it a little more in response to your question, since the word "master" tends to connote ... like, a guild-like structure capable of conferring that status? i tried doing some research (and went down an unrelated rabbit hole about a militarized merchant guild in mexica/aztec history), but i didn't find much that inspired anything. nonetheless, i do like the idea of there being some sort of modern heritage organization that maintains a certain level of prestige for traditional weaving practices and promotes younger generations learning. if there was an organization like that, i imagine it came into being after zuriñe's time ... maybe something beatriz would've supported in her honor, posthumously? big fan of her grandmother, so it would make sense. rambling now ... thank you for asking !
✈️and 💯for Zurine, my beloved, pretty please?
✈️ AIRPLANE — does your oc like traveling, or do they consider themselves a more homey person?
zuriñe is more of a homey person ! as i mentioned here, she hadn't left uspana in over a decade as of 1926, and i don't know that she leaves again after the trip to meet rowena's parents. she did travel monthly to do patronage work for years, but she stopped doing that sometime earlier in the 1920s for health reasons. the orphanage is in the part of uspana she's from, so part of why she didn't mind the travel is because she could return there. she talks to rowena about missing home and how different it is from the region where she's lived for decades. in general, she's fine to at home and entertain herself in a familiar space—whether in her garden or at the loom. i did recently put together that nakawe palace was already under construction when fernando succeeded his father (polite way to describe patricide, but i digress), but he and zuriñe had tonacatec as their residence instead of living there. since nakawe palace is the business hub, it makes sense that zuriñe, being private and a homebody, would want to live elsewhere.
💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.
oof, it's unfortunate, but i haven't had an opportunity to think about zuriñe in a while ... i'm going to make up three, right now, just for you:
i established that the shield flower, which is basically a sunflower, is a big flower in uspana. zuriñe is a gardener, and she has a variety named after her.
zuriñe has never been a fan of automobiles and resisted replacing the carriage fleet with them. she remained a nervous passenger for years and, as you may imagine, finds rowena's love of driving a little horrifying.
zuriñe's favorite accessory is a yellow scarf she inherited from her mother, but she rarely wears it because it doesn't comport with the color dress code that necessitates she wears blue in public.
