❧ 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐲  /  a birth, a wedding, a funeral 

my entry for the Father’s Day Special is a taste of tragedy, with a side of spoilers, in honor of my favorite character’s favorite relationship. if you can believe it, i only cried twice while making this !  and: soundtrack for this is clint mansell’s, “together will live together.” (maybe a third time, almost, while listening to this song...)

TRANSCRIPT:

{Knocking.}

[A] You look like your grandmother.

[B] Do you think so? [A] More than ever. Ask her later, and she will agree.

[A] Are you sure you want to do this? You can walk away. [B] {Chuckles.} Yes, papa. Can we go for a walk? I feel so restless. I think a stroll would help... If you’re feeling up to it. [A] I made it up the stairs, did I not?

[A] This is a special place, you know, for us. [B] Of course. It’s a ceremony site.

[A] It is more than that.

[A] Years ago, we sat here.

[A] Your mother was shaking like a leaf.

[A] There was no hint or clue, but I believe I knew why.

[A] For me, this spot is where you came into being. This is the place where I first loved you.

[B] Why are you telling me this? Now? It’s so cruel.

[B] {Sniffling.} I won’t be able to live without you, papa. It hurts so much, even just thinking about it. I would rather feel nothing than this. [A] Do you remember the first time I took you to Creator’s Mount?

[B] What? I suppose... [A] Truly, do you remember it?

[A] How the air smelled? The sounds—all of the foliage and life?

[B] I remember ... the wind. I didn’t expect it. [A] What we call Breath of Canarís.

[A] Do you remember what you asked about her as we stood there?

[B] I ... I asked why she ...

[A] You asked why she stayed behind when they left. It was the choice, not the reason, that baffled you. I think you were angry, for her. {Beatriz sobbing.}

[A] What did I tell you? {Beatriz, gasping between sobs.}

[A] {whispering} Breathe, Beatriz. What did I tell you?

[B] “Sometimes our stories end just as the people we love begin theirs.”

[A] There, you see? This is a circle as old as time. [B] It’s unfair. [A] {Chuckles.} It would be, little bird, but I have done all that matters.

[B] I should finish getting ready. Mother will be here any minute.

[A] And, Beatriz? I am proud of you, today and every day. [B] I love you, papa.

[R] What’s wrong, lover? [A] Nothing at all. Today should be happy.
