An interesting point of comparison from the most recent chapters, during this fight Chopper doesn’t ever correct Gedatsu when he calls him by the wrong species, instead embracing his ‘monsterhood’ in order to seal the victory. Post time skip, Chopper is fully comfortable with the idea of being a monster for the sake of his crew, and is now willing to call out anyone who misidentifies him as a raccoon or a tanuki or whatever.

The goat man doesn’t end up helping Chopper much outside of becoming fodder to show off Gedatsu’s jet dials, but I really like how Oda handled Chopper saving his life. There was no hesitation, no snide remarks or even that expectation that the goat would switch sides. It was simply something Chopper did, willingly and without hesitation, because he’s a doctor and saving people is what doctors do.
