Supernova Pictograph, Chaco Culture National Historic Park, NM
This pictograph, located 20 feet up on the underside of a cliff overhang, is considered by many to depict the Crab Supernova that occurred in 1054 AD. A second, more likely theory, is this pictograph marks the area as a sun-watching station. These stations were typically marked with four elements- a crescent, a star, a hand, and a sundisk. All four elements are visible here, though the sundisk in the lower left corner is greatly faded.
