The wet and overcast conditions in Chaguramas did not deter many athletes and spectators alike from attending the Super Sprint Keep Fit on December 1st, which was hosted by the One a Week Running and Multisport group. Christian Gillette came in with top honours in the men’s triathlon event (350m swim, 10K ride, 2K run), with a time of 31:26. He was closely followed a few seconds later by Nicolas Mitchell (31:35) and former national triathlon champion Ancil Greene (32:19).
Among the ladies, Tamiko Butler put in a good performance to lead the field in a time of 34:20, even though she received a 15 second penalty for unbuckling her helmet before properly securing her bike in the transition area. Alexandra Consten (35:37) and Jodi Gomez (37:15) finished second and third respectively.
In the kids event (200m swim, 5k ride, 1K run), Andrew Gillette was in first place with a time of 19:36 and was closely followed by Logan Raymond (19:47) and Lily Stauble (20:16). There was also an adult relay triathlon, which saw the team of Kareem Baptiste, Terife Smart and Avinash Amanalay take the top spot in 29:42. The second and third placed teams were Wendy Ammon, Robin Samuel and Diane Henderson (35:25), and Nikita Legall, Ronald Vincent and Desha Ravello (37:24) respectively.
In the Duathlon event (4K run, 10K ride, 2K run), Avinash Amanalay put in a strong performance to take the top spot in 39:41, with Jason Gaitan (44:44) and Anton Robinson (46:05) taking second and third spot.
Prospects look good for the sport, based on the good turnout and active participation at Sunday’s event.
