Team Earthquake wins Alamo Tag Team Triathlon
Team Earthquake, led by former National Triathlon champion, Jason Gooding, led his team to a convincing win of the Alamo “Drive Happy” Tag team triathlon at Las Cuevas on Sunday 17th November, 2013.
The four-member mixed team which included Tamiko Butler of Antigua, Christiane Farah (Neal & Massy Rainbow Cup Sprint champion), and James Amow, won the 4 X (200m swim, 5km bike and 1km run on the beach) in a time of 1:24:05. Their total ages amounted to 102 years.
Giving Earthquake some stiff competition in the early part of the race was Fasttrack consisting of youngsters Jordan Van Reeken, Christian Gillette (Barbados Sprint Tri Champion), Lilly Stauble and Sebastian Bos, whose total age is just 57 years. They placed second in the Overall but won the Junior category in 1:24:35.
“This is the future of this sport,” said former TTTF president Ian Gooding. “And there are even a few more right behind them. Triathlon has a great future in this country.”
Taking third Open spot was RWTC’s team Teamours, consisting to Nicola de Pass, Scott Marchack, Laura Kalef and former national triathlon champion Ancil Greene. Their total age was 101 years. Time was 1:46:08.
Team Hope “Young Stars”, the oldest team in race with a total age of 175, placed fourth in a time of 1:46:08. Their members included Cindy Xavier, Derek Daniel, Diane Henderson (former triathlon champion) and Stephen Welch.
Twenty-five teams, made up of two females and two males each, took part in the race.
Sponsors included Alamo, NLCB, SporTT, Blue Waters, Renew, Odessey Timing, and the TTTF.
