Word Revelation day! Chain One Explained!
The chain was flagged off by Kriti who randomly picked a photo from her latest folder. She meant to start off the chain on a positive note AND with a musical score to go along!
But her dreams of a whimsical chain of photos trying to depict the hard to visually capture phenomenon of music, were effectively shattered by the evil Nidhi. Although… it’s really quite unfair to blame Nidhi. She knows Kriti quite well and believed it was quite evil of her to pick out a word as difficult as music in the first place (Kriti, btw, naively believes something about Nidhi being noble and not wanting to make the word too obvious blah blah blah). Plus she’s lazy so she picked the second most obvious word play. The photo was easy to pick from her archives, and in fact, that rule about NOT picking photos from archives was added right after Nidhi’s submission. Tch. A little too late, but oh well.
Next up was the absolutely brilliantly evil Vasudha. Nidhi's photo made her think of kids/football/green, but none of those really "fit" the photograph. Two days before her deadline, play hit her. She didn't want to make it too easy and took play as a stage play/theatre but wanted to take a play that would be recognizable, so she went ahead with a loose interpretation of Julius Caesar. Wow, don’t you just love her expression in the photo? A veritable Caesar. All Hail the Caesar.
The good old Priya efficiently preserved the theme of the word play in her photograph. We’re slightly curious about the game she has been playing though. What do you think it is? Also, note the lovely tones and DOF of her photograph.
Anmol was the next to submit…another photo based on the word play! Wow, we never thought that word would make it so far! We love how he used yet another interpretation of the word…taking the chain back outdoors to the arena of street plays.
The next person on the chain is endeared herself to us with her enthusiasm and support for our little project. <3 Let's hear her verbatim: “There were a lot of 'play' related photos from the start of the chain, and the last photo posted by Anmol also depicted a play, which could be interpreted as 'theatre' and evilly decided to use the alternative. The photo was taken at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall, here in Bangalore, which is a famous centre for musical and theatrical performances. Architecturally, the building is in the shape of a violin, which is why I choose this place. This was a lucky chance that I got to shoot inside since the theatre was getting ready for a performance that evening, for I was worried that they might not let me shoot inside randomly or wouldn't put on the lights if it wasn't in use.” Gosh, Rashmi, we love how enterprising you are! Show us a photo of the building from the outside, ok?
However, Rashmi’s efforts to evilly change the direction of the chain were a little in vain. Espera, a regular spammer of our facebook page (no, we love you for it <3), decided she liked the older word too much. :p Lets hear her verbatim too: “All the photos preceding mine had 'play' as a common element. However, the photo just before mine doesn't make me think of the word 'play', so I thought about either going for a similar photo to that (in true Chinese Whispers spirit), or for a photo, that, to me, signified playing.”
The chain’s direction was FINALLY adeptly steered away from “play” and all its variants, by the clear thinking and straightforward Souvik: “I could see children playing, having fun - so Childhood! :p” Yay Souvik! Brilliant of you to depict childhood in an entirely different, and rather poignant light.
Another straightforward boy did an excellent job of twisting around the word. Ashish says: “Most of the preceding photos pretty much followed the word except the last one [which incidentally happened to be the one I had to interpret...]. Kid sitting in the market, looking grumpily having to do all the work while every one else is... ;)” Yes, Ashish, we get it, we get it; you too, have a lot of work to do! :p
Whew! What a roller-coaster journey from “music” to “work”…but oh well, such IS life! :p
