Chalkletters update
I fair raced through Outlander. Partly, that’s because the Christmas holidays always involve me sitting in the living room keeping my mum company while she watches NCIS, but also because it was really good. I liked the main character a lot, and the plot never really stopped to draw breath. I laughed, I swore, I stayed up into the early hours of the morning reading. That’s everything you want from a book, really. I also got given the DVD box set of this for Christmas, by complete coincidence, so as soon as I make sure it doesn’t spoil anything in book two I’ll be watching that.

I also got given the new illustrated Harry Potter for Christmas, so that’s next!

Happy Christmas Eve all!
I don’t think Scott Lynch is going to be seriously challenged by any other book I read this month, but Melina Marchetta is a very, very high second place! I love everything I’ve read by her. I think I’ve also cried while reading everything she’s written that I’ve encountered. She is amazing, the emotions in her books - whether she’s writing YA fiction or fantasy - are so real. The main character in this was very different, but no less wonderful. Her mind is so full of jagged edges and I spent the first fifty pages or so confused as to what was going on but it was absolutely worth it to keep going. I’m already looking forward to rereading this!

Next up, I’m finally going to get around to the book @pottermoosh let me borrow. I started it on the train and I’m pretty into it so far!
Chalkletters update
I stayed up entirely too late on Thursday night reading The Light Between Oceans and I definitely suffered for it, I was so tired all day at work. On the other hand, I had a party to go to that was an hour away from home on Friday so I got a lot of reading done on the train.
I love lighthouses, so I really liked that aspect of this book - especially the beginning that was all about the lighthouse keeper and the lighthouse. The actual plot wasn’t the kind of thing I would usually read, though it was handled better than those deliberately overwrought, blatantly grabbing at your heartstrings books that I dislike.

I’ve already started my next book and it looks to be a good one.
