Challenge 121: I’d Like to Buy a Vowel: C, R, A I went a little out of my comfort zone this time and not only painted traditionally again, but also went abstract! It was actually a lot easier and more fun than I anticipated, so I’m glad I gave it a shot. Here’s my thoughts behind each composition: The first one here is a lowercase “C” and if you tilt your head to the right, they form a cat’s face. The second is lowercase “R” for roadtrip, which when viewed to the left, looks like a car on a road, and a tent. Lastly, lowercase “A” is an airplane when viewed upside down.  They are all subjects that mean something to me, Jordan, and both of us together, and I’m hoping to find a way to frame these and hang them in the bedroom, possibly. Challenge 121: I’d Like to Buy a Vowel: Coral Reef Rock Letters

For this challenge I picked something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, while also bringing awareness to the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the other beds of reefs in our oceans that are dying from the consequences of global warming as the temperatures in the oceans are getting warmer, and due to every day careless toxins put into the oceans by humans. I will also be putting this design on a 100% cotton t-shirt (no micro-fibers and no pesticides used making it good for our oceans!) that will be up for sale in my Etsy shop in the link below. $1 per sale will be going to local ocean and shoreline conservation sites. Eventually I will be going all hemp fiber products to help conserve water as well. I hope you enjoy this design as much as I did creating it!

Challenge 121: I’d Like to Buy a Vowel: House Plant Drop Caps


I had way too much fun with this challenge. I always love an opportunity to play with type, and my love of illustrated letterforms let me to do a house plant themed drop cap series! I actually plan to finish out the whole alphabet.
I wonder if there are any novice botanist out there who can recognize what these letters represent!

This was a fun project, I haven’t done any pieces quite this cluttered in a while. As much time as it took me to render all of the garbage, I think I spent twice as long figuring out how to organize all the objects so that the negative space creates the letter forms.

Challenge 121: I’d Like to Buy a Vowel: “S”

Of course I had to do the first letter of my name because I love the letter S and how twisty and lyrical it is.  And of course I had to add plants because they make everything look more alive.  Looking forward to trying out some more letter embellishments, and page layouts with spot illustrations in the future.

Challenge 121: I’d like to buy a vowel!!

Letters!! Drop caps! Illustrated letter forms! Things that start with the same letter! Pick any letter in the alphabet (doesn’t have to be a vowel) and illustrate whatever comes to mind!
