Confronting the Myth of the "Autistic Look"
It's like I hear "you don't look autistic" one more time and I might just ask them what an autistic face is supposed to look like.

Life on the road didn't land me where I anticipated. Sometimes we call this a failure. For me, it was a tremendous gift to try something that, if nothing else, allowed me to have an incredible amount of dedicated time watching this little girl get bigger and stronger. That's the one takeaway that I can see immediately that makes the whole experience worthwhile despite the outcome. And speaking of outcome...it's really easy to think the outcome is settled when the value and benefit are still working its way to the surface. Keep struggling, keep trying, keep failing. Success isn't the absence of failure it's indifference to it. #adventureRx #type1diabetes #gobeyond #challengestereotypes
Night time on the wall. Looking up at the nylon nest keeping you suspended off the ground--listening to the beeping of the digital monitor (CGM) warning you of blood sugar fluctuations as they happen--suddenly it all seems pretty silly. I'm thankful to have the opportunity to tell this story about #type1diabetes and #climbing It's a privilege to dig into this process, and no mistake about it. #challengestereotypes #gratitude #adventureRx #diabetes
This may be my favorite photo of me and Lilo shot by @stefsurreal. We had another great day out on the lake and blood sugar cooperated--I've been doing intermittent fasting and I'm really impressed with it. On a less technical note I made a vlog about my DIY solution to waterproofing my Dexcom and floating my @gopro all in one shot! Necessity is the mother of invention...#type1diabetes #challengestereotypes #adventureRx #gobeyond #diabetes
Did some "home improvements" on the #scamptrailer and now I have learned that applying lettering is not my artistic calling...but that's ok, it's still really awesome to get more people connected with our work as we travel. Big THANK YOU to @teamzoe for the decals! They are awesome! #gobeyond #diabetes #challengestereotypes #type1diabetes (at Zion National Park)
The best day ever. Each and every day. #climbing #type1diabetes #adventureRX #challengestereotypes
