I can't remember the whole timeline of events, but I can say Chance being a reoccurring mention was on purpose even before the finale cropped up. There was no doubt he was going to appear eventually and have some reason to do so, but I hadn't decided on one yet.
Chance was created to be somewhat of a parallel to Henry. He's going through the same grief of losing a child, but unlike Henry who orchestrated the same actions, Chance's were fueled by an all-consuming anger. He got to the show late and not he's struggling to find some sort of closure, even if he had to take it.
What happened to him afterwards was ironic fate, I suppose.
Chance was also sort to be an early parallel to Charlie as well. Charlie is shown to be more reckless and outright with her actions, and Chance follows that with his actions in CGHA. Fun fact, but Charlie is technically name-themed after Chance in Home. Chauncey Evans Johnson, Charlie Emily Johnson.
So, the long and short is that Chance himself wasn't just a stand-in for Henry, but a warning of what a dangerous mindset like theirs can result in in a scenario where animatronics are 100% sentient. And a warning of what can happen when grief is left to molder.
