Chand Baori: The Hidden Treasure in Rajasthan, India
Rajasthanś pride Chand Baroi is definitely a heritage but, it is not as easy to find. This hidden wonder is monumental magnificence located in the village of Abhaneri, falling on the Jaipur-Agra highway.
It poses as the worldś largest step well but, still lacks a confirmed place in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. Nonetheless, this Nikumbha Dynasty special was built in the 9th Century A.D by King Chandra for the purpose of water conservation; a respite from the boiling heat of Rajasthan.
Whatś so spectacular about the structure? It is the play of light and shadow that the steps create at different hours of the day. Also, the exquisite geometry is a huge magnet for travelers from various destinations. As you get closer, the well keeps funneling down. The tree sides contain the flight of steps leading down to the surface of water while the fourth side is an intricately carved 3-storied pavilion meant for the royal families.
