We have to change, NOW.

The world today is a scary place. We are moving at a rapid pace and not in a direction that is favorable for everyone.
When I say this, I'm talking about how slowly but surely LGBTQ+ rights are being stripped away (the adoption ban, the ban on trans people in homeless shelters and more). The sad truth of the matter is that homophobia and transphobia are being validated by these laws and the president's outspoken anti-LGBTQ+ policies.

People their safety is, and has been, at large, especially under Trump's presidency. His openly anti LGBTQ+ agenda allows for homo- and transphobes to be outspoken about their hatred. Their hatred is validated by the president and plenty of other politicians. This is unacceptable. We are people. We are ALL people. We should be treated as such. No matter who we might love and how we might identify.
My concerns especially go out to our non-cisgendered friends. Their lives are at stake and as long as we don't step in, they can't go out safely. Did you know that transgender people face causal discrimination up to 60 times a day? That's about every 20 minutes or so in a 24h day. And were you aware of the fact that 41% of transgender people will attempt suicide? If you, too, think that these numbers are outrageous- please, take action now.
-Speak up when you hear homophobic or transphobic comments
-Educate yourself on the issues the community faces and how it affects real peoples lives
-Pass your knowledge on. Talk to your friends, family, colleagues, classmates- anyone with ears.

These small changes in your life can make a huge difference in our lives. I want to especially thank @taylorswift for using her platform in this way. Taylor, your contributions to our community are so greatly appreciated. Your letter brought me to tears, the good kind, of course. The choice you have made to speak up will encourage more people to do the same. Thank you. A thousand times, thank you.
Much love,
From me to you.
