We hear this so often: “If they love you, they’ll change.” Or “He/she’s changing for me.” It’s silly to think that we have the power to make someone change, simply because we feel they need to. Or the opposite, that we must change in order to be loved by someone.⠀ ⠀ Love is not about asking someone to ‘fix’ or to remold parts of themselves to be better for you. Sometimes people must go on their own journeys, heal their own pain, become their own person for THEMSELVES. Not for love.⠀ ⠀ And on the other end – you shouldn’t feel the need to shift pieces of yourself to be worthy of love. Someone who truly loves you will see the broken pieces, the imperfect pieces, the flaws and love you in spite of these things. You won’t be perfect, and they won’t be either, and this whole thing won’t be easy. But love is not build on the principle of adapting another person to fit your mold. Love is working, fighting, learning, growing, healing, becoming. It’s difficult, but so damn beautiful.
