If your game (like mine) doesn't download in english you can change the language both before and after starting the game! (I didn't know this bc I don't speak japanese and the former I discovered it by chance and the latter I was told by a very kind person).
I'm just gonna put it here because I had difficulties (low spoons) and maybe some other folks might find it helpful too.
The first way is after having opened the app but before starting the game.
You'll need to push the yes button (first pic) and then you'll have some text in a window that you'll need to click on to make it go away so you'll be able to push that top button there which means "language" (second pic) and then you can choose between Japanese and English (third pic).
If you close and then re-open the app you'll see those first screens in English now!
The second way is in the settings.
After you have clicked on the yellow paw at the top left of the yard screen you'll need to click on the bottom right square with the four squares, then the bottom left with the cogwheel.
Then you will find yourself in the customisation window and you'll find the language button again, pushing it will allow you to make the change.
