In theory, maybe I get the “we’re all just playing with barbies, they’re fictional characters, no interpretation is incorrect because it’s an interpretation” argument. But actually no, not all takes are equally valid. Framing something as an interpretation doesn’t mean it inherently has merit. Some takes are completely incorrect and betray a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. They just aren’t a reason to harass people or send death threats
Saw John Cardoza as Christian when he was touring with Moulin rouge, was thrilled when he went on to Broadway, even if it was briefly.
Just saw a glimpse of his JD from Heathers? GOD, this man is critically underrated he is so good
Really got sucked back in… at the script reading stage 🫣
I swear I’m not crazy but wasn’t there a big art book or costume book released sometime after Beauty and the beast 2017 or am I hallucinating something I really want?
Like I’m so serious this isn’t helping… is there a book 👉👈
The true star…
No judgement… is a silk shirt stupid for SoCal yes or no?
I lived in SoCal for 3 years and I do not know what their standards for clothing being stupid are. I doubt something as simple as a standard exists for that. I am pretty sure I saw every possible way a person can be dressed, and the reaction seemed to depend entirely on which other person was reacting.
(If you're talking about, like, comfort in the climate, then my point still stands, because SoCal is a large area that contains practically all possible biomes divided from each other by lines as narrow as a city block, due to its position relative to mountains and ocean.)
i really hope op means like a silk button down so they can look like a low level yakuza boss. that's a sick look not enough people do.
but i find silk mostly pretty bad for hot weather... it's a lot like wearing synthetics. traps hot air and moisture.
It is in fact a button down (and it is sick) … have a really good look packed but I’m realizing it’s probably not ideal for weather… perhaps an evening look, I dunno.
Going to be near the ocean most of the time so maybe it’ll be alright?
No judgement… is a silk shirt stupid for SoCal yes or no?
2017 rewatch | p2
If you’re reading this I had to split the post into two because I had a lot to say lol. Keep in mind I do still adore this version, it’s just that for the first time I watched them back to back and there’s a lot of spots that could’ve seen more. But for all it adds there’s lots to think about that I love.
“A life sentence for a rose” is also a great line
While his room is primarily in tact there does appear to be a ? Nest? The Beast might’ve made himself, but it doesn’t get seen again-
Maestro Cadenza my beloved 💕
“That is a hairbrush.”
I will die for Plumette and the drama and desperation and longing her and Lumiere have - ough they kill me every time.
I love the effects of the curse in this film, how it progresses - some things are similar like Plumette gets more feathers or Cogsworth re-winds, castle crumbles. Again it’s just like a tint more mature?? Lack of a better word, the musical tour did something like this with Cogsworth getting a turn key
Maurice isn’t escentric enough to make the townspeople so dismissive of him. I also think calling him a “Tinkerer” over an artist would work better. I love his automaton work and it would serve as a adaptation off his inventing, and he still takes it to fair/market
Absolute nitpick but the Book earlier is in English but the Menu is in French… commit to the French like the animated 🤨
Let her eat lmao, always sliding the plates away
I forgot his name but I also love the coat rack/Valet
“Countless widows…” “… Widows :)”
Chips little bedroom in the cupboard 😭🥺
Days in the sun also rules, like human again one of my favorites. I like how they’re on opposite ends of the same feeling, Hopefully and bittersweet
I don’t know how I feel about Belle knowing there’s a curse and it’s not just an enchanted castle. It is kind of her to want to help but it also makes it a bit strange in a way I can’t just describe…
“Better books to read” is really funny but I wish there was more there between them before genuinely giving her the library BUT it makes him reconsider all his possessions, appreciate them more. Ough
Philippe and the Beast shaking at the same time lmao
“Let’s go home” AUGHHHHHHH
Hot take but the weird ear cuff earring is worse than the dress… the dress isn’t that bad but compared to everyone else it’s sort of plain. How is a wardrobe out doing you?
The face powder will never not make me howl laughing
Now I know she'll never leave me… Even as she runs away 🗣️🗣️🥀 song is everything to me. It haunts me. I hear it in my dreams (Dan… Dan I love you- Dan.)
Like the scene when he first comes to the castle I also prefer the animated , where Belle cares for him at home and they talk *first* but that’s more of a nitpick.
“You smell so good” again another line straight to the heart - there’s so many. I do prefer this the drama, the loss, the joy of the extended ending. You really feel the effect
“It’s so good to see you.” What if you kill me? (Lumiere to Adam)
I like the tone and the heavier implications but hate that it comes with the increased speed and loss of dialogue/interaction :(
2017 rewatch | p1
This one I was really excited for actually, from about 2017-2020 I was really deep into a Batb moment, largely thanks to this adaptation.
While watching it directly after the original has shifted my view a little bit, I still think it receives way more hate that it deserves! It still holds that place in my heart for its looks, and its expansion on the servants as characters. I just wish there were more people around with a tender spot for it to talk too… not many anymore from what I’ve seen.
I love there’s this slightly darker tone/edge to the movie … however its pacing is incredibly fast and it lacks dialogue, especially from Belle. So much quiet and everyone just sort of 🧍♂️ until the next scene, which is so disappointing as there’s a lot of heavy implications and things introduced to be explored- at least talked about!
*Explodes Agatha with my mind for a chance at more dialogue/development scenes* I don’t think she’s the cause but definitely a symptom as she takes away time that could be elsewhere
It’s so fast? It feels like they’re racing from scene to scene despite being slightly longer/additional scenes or details.
I LOVE the look of the movie. The costuming, the wigs and period details. Water closets??? Cmon! The opulence… the breeches… Belle’s pocket with her village dress! The castle even in the curse being so ornate…. Beauty within etc etc
I like Gaston being a Captain, it adds to his reputation in the village. Not only is he a tavern owner and hunter but he can really sell that “Hero” respected image.
I like the baker being pulled straight from the animated film, lol
Part of my frustration comes from how in some cases the film is dedicated to answering questions (such as the memory part of the spell) but then will skimp out on longer character interactions
Stealing the rose being a reference to the original book
Ironically I think this Belle is a lot more “not like other girls” than animated Belle who gets accused more— they have the thing about girls reading, a smugness there- something, rather than her fully standing out daydreaming, kind, apart from others (she’s still all these things here but am I making sense?)
Again, I feel like Belle especially barely speaks? She should at least be loud with her manners? I’m not sure
Ultimately, the movie is fantastic for expanding for the servants. Especially those who used to be secondary are now main cast. But Belle, Gaston, And sometimes the Beast feel without a lot of dialogue? They suffer from the speed
About my lack of dialogue and interaction, the best example is when Maurice first arrives at the castle and there’s not really any rushing to greet— though they lay it all out for him.
“I lost my hands not my eyes” lol, honestly the sarcasm though is top tier
“This castle is alive.” OUGH underrated line, there’s a lot here. I could give a speech about it but I’d need a while.
loving this beauty & the beast era you're in and just wanted to let you know my sixth grade class did the that play and i (not to brag) played a napkin 😎 soooo, just know you're mutuals with some batb hot shit 🤙🏽
A napkin! freshly pressed no less! 🫣
I’m back in it, I said the other day I am in the enchanted trenches lmao. Seeing the new tour activated me like a sleeper agent, now I’m rewatching 1991-> 2017-> cruise ship show.
When I tell you 2017-2020 I was insufferable because of the remake (stuff coming, I will defend but also be critical I am insane). I also do recommend the cruise show there’s a good recording but it’s so cool with PUPPETS! COME ON!!
I do like a lot of these Parallels between Gaston and the Beast, and in a way how they show who the true monster of the story is. I don’t have the complete thoughts together so I hope this rapid fire works…
Something about paying close attention to their eyes. They’re a very intense blue, but for the beast that ice eventually melts into something softer, sadder, valuable.
The way they move is similar! The beast sort of has to move the way he does, half lumbering and sometimes on all fours. Gaston lumbers but to show off his ability, his physique. There was no earthly reason for this man to hop rooftops in the village— but he can so he does.
Their tempers, honestly I could end just at that however there’s a key difference there from the very first moment we meet the beast. Even as he roars and he throws things and rages— he knew better, he wanted to be better but had no control of it. There was a deep layer of guilt and regret, knowing he’s wrong and what it has lost him— not just from a curse standpoint! Gaston never falters - whatever he says whatever he does he means it and means it proudly. His arrogance runs so deep it overpowers any conscious he could contain. The Beast displays the want for change, even at his most stubborn and angry.
There’s something there too In the offers Belle is made, while a prisoner the Beast gives her a better room, attempts to actually listen to her even if he just rages again. He is taken in by the goodness in her heart, how unselfish she is to trade her life for her fathers— clearly not knowing many like that, or knowing he wouldn’t have done the same. Gaston knows this goodness and seeks to exploit it to get the status of a beauty for a wife/mother to his children. It gets in his way instead of stirring a change in him.
Well Belle was briefly a prisoner, to Gaston she would be a slave.
A detail that struck me last night is that Belle’s influence goes far beyond manners… in fact it goes a bit into humanity. In some things that were lost, yes, but also the way he conducts himself. He stands straighter, makes attempts to use silverware …. More importantly he starts wearing shirts again. About at the half way mark, and I think it really is a mark of progress that should get talked about more. While personality is the easiest to notice the clothes too are a huge sign. OUGH
like. i'll leave this alone. but HOW are historical romance books not sexualizing the fall of breeches. literally a blowjob flap. not to mention the collars that open to the diaphragm. the décolletage with a wide neckline one swift tug from being revealed. the calves on display. the intimacy of finally seeing the real hair beneath the wig. cmon it's basic storytelling
i love making a post that attracts everyone with usernames like mozartswigsweat and bonnetenthusiast and foppishrake and petticoatsonpetticoatsonpetticoats and dandyismunlimited within 48 hours. blessed webbed site. merry christmas to us all.

First re-watch in years
Seeing the stage show made me remember how much I love the story, I’m now on a re-watch spree of the movies… this’ll be the first time in years I’ve watched the original.
Turns out I must’ve broke our dvd as we have the first special Blu-ray edition, cute interactive Home Screen and an extended cut I didn’t know was a thing.
You can tell it’s from when the first started with the special editions and Blueray, it’s high definition and vibrant but some details are scrubbed…Maurice’s eyes scare me
Genuinely such a gorgeous movie tho. The backgrounds? Ough.
I did not realize how many lines in the stage musical are straight from the movie,
The original is more explicit about the timeframe of the curse (10 years, till his 21st) but less so on how long she’s at the castle (there’s montages and it’s practically spring or at least a thaw at the end, but with Maurice in the woods it gets a bit confused? 2 month minimum in my mind)
Genuinely though what is the carriage creature never seen again? Omg was it a horse?
“I was trying to be hospitable.” Idk why this one got me so bad lmao
Gaston jumping across rooftops. I do not remember this
The writing in books and on signs being in French. Love when movies do this
Maurice just straight up poking Cogsworths insides is hilarious
Forgot how they genuinely make the beast scary, or at least intimidating in his first few scenes. I love the way he moves too ough
Love Mrs. Potts energy. DASHES everywhere with that cart. 😭
Reasonably I knew the ballroom was early CGI but it’s still breaking my brain
The way Belle scrunches her nose >>
Snowball fight… dorks
HUMAN AGAIN WHEN WE’RE HUMAN AGAIN 🗣️
After Lumiere, the coatrack is my favorite. Does he have a name?
“Look at us” what if you kill me?
I swear I’m not crazy but wasn’t there a big art book or costume book released sometime after Beauty and the beast 2017 or am I hallucinating something I really want?
