Daylight Saving Hell: One Woman vs. the Clock in Her Subaru
Our Daily correspondent, Jane Stern, on springing the clocks forward.
I shouldn’t be obsessed with daylight saving time, but I am. Like a pregnancy due date, a college graduation, or an income-tax payment, I have DST circled in red on my calendar and amplified with exclamation marks.
This week’s chapter of Akane Banashi is amazing as always. The series is on such a roll and I love that, in terms of personality, the couple in the story Akane is telling are essentially Otsuru and Kin’emon.

Outside of time
soooooo I have this ~odd~ theory about prayer-- btw I’m a christian so don’t get ur knickers in a twist.
God is outside of time, right? some books describe it like history is a rug that he looks over, or a toy railroad. he’s just bigger.
so, say that every time we send up a prayer, it’s like putting a little red flag up on the carpet and he can reach over and pick it up. God knows the future and answers prayers concerning the future and since he is outside of time, shoudn’t it be able to work in reverse?
shouldn’t he be able to influence the past? yeah, it’s already happened, but that’s for us poor little grubs stuck in a linear passage of time.
maybe it’s like Doctor Who, where big, life altering events in history can’t get changed (assassinations, natural disasters) and once you know the exact history of the past youi can’t change it, but you can still influence it in other ways. maybe a few more people make it out of the world trade center on 9/11. maybe a couple more soldiers make it home.
I don’t know, but I do like the idea.
