just trying to liven things up as the mornings...
I feel this relates to my reaction to some of the food that is made on GBBO. Suet pudding? Shudder. Game pies? Gag. That one meat pie that poured out grease and meat juices? Barf! But Brits obviously love those things.
I am sorry to report that every bad thing you have suspected or heard about British food is almost surely true. I hope that there is some kind of food Mecca in London, and maybe there is, but I have had so much bad food -- and seen so many bad recipes -- here that it’s hard to believe. And it’s the actual cooking that’s the problem. There are some great raw ingredients available here, and even some nice regional specialty ingredients, but once those things make it into a British kitchen (professional or domestic) they are doomed. ‘Overcooked and Underseasoned’ is the UK food motto.
The upside is that our home cooking has improved dramatically as a result and we save a lot of money by never eating out.
