interview

With a heavy sigh, Leon crossed out yet another job listing from the city's newspaper, embarrassed at how badly his last interview had gone. He'd tried applying for a line cook opening at a local restaurant; everything seemed to be going just fine - the head chef even sounded pretty excited about offering him the job. But then came the dreaded 'reveal.'
Recently, a law had passed requiring supers to provide potential employers with a set of documents detailing their abilities, but only if asked. This was in addition to the famed Superhero Ban, and apparently passed 'in concern for the safety of non-supers.' However, anyone with half a brain knew what the papers were really for. The interview took an abrupt turn as soon as he pulled out his documentation. Apparently, the position he'd spent the last half hour applying for had already been filled earlier that day - the chef had simply forgotten.
Sure.
'But it's for the best,' the portly man had claimed, clearly struggling to retain his cheery tone. 'We wouldn't want our customers complaining about animal hair in their soup.' A strained laugh followed, as if this was all somehow supposed to be hilarious. Leon simply nodded and walked out without so much as a 'see ya,' vowing to leave a string of shitty reviews for the place as soon as he got home.
Normally, this wouldn't bother him so much - he would give himself a mental pep talk and simply move on to the next place, because surely they would be a little less shitty. But with the mounting pressure of having to find something to help him and Hui Fang stay above the poverty line, all this rejection was causing the usually level-headed teen to crack.
After walking down a few more blocks, Leon arrived at the final place he’d marked; a receptionist position at some bougie-looking apartment complex. Though his confidence had taken a thorough beating, the teen steeled his nerve and quietly stepped into the building.
