HOLY SHIZZLES LOOK WHO ASKED ME FOR A FANFIC! I LOVE YOUR BLOG SO MUCH *crying* I still think of you as your old url… So, I took some liberties and I left a few open mysteries, and warning: there isn’t much romance but does a start to one count?
The stars were quite bright, theStag outshining everything—including her own future. She kicked her legs backand forth, her heels banging against the glass railing she sat upon likeclockwork. At this point, she didn’t care if she bruised her skin a little.
“Can I help you, Madam?” The voicecut through the air like shatter. It shattered the silence, it shattered herpeace, and it shattered the stars. Mara jumped at the voice, nearly losing herbalance, nearly falling—
Then there were two hands on hershoulders to keep her steady. She looked up at the man, and she hoped that hereyes were no longer red. Then she saw his grimace, and she knew that what hesaw was a painted face with reality dripping down it.
“I wasn’t going to jump,” she saidautomatically. People always assumed that. So what she always seemed sad, andso what she was always a nudge away from falling to her death?
“What are you doing out here?”Thankfully, he made no accusations. “Nobody is supposed to be out here.”
“I enjoy stargazing,” she replied. An easy answer. A truth. I enjoy feelingfree.
“The observatory has an excellentview,” he said.
She wondered why he was sodetermined to get her off of the balcony. He hadn’t even tried to get her offthe railing. She squinted in the darkness and her eyes widened slightly as sherecognized the badge of the Captain of the Guard.
“It looks as if it’s about to rain,”he said.
Figuring he wasn’t about to give upany time soon, she swung her legs around and hopped onto the balcony floor. “I’mMara,” she said. A truth.
He didn’t bother to introducehimself. “The concert is about to start in the Great Hall.”
Great Halls had too many people. Balconiesserved as much better seating to her. She said, “I don’t care much for music.”A lie.
