“just tell me something, was it really worth it?”

   There’s a pause- well, it’s more of a full stop really, as she raises her head. What kind of answer does she want? Pondering for a moment on the concept of “worth”, Elizabeth feels a familiar weight settle on her chest. Shepard knows that she has changed in the past few years - dying has a tendency to do that to a person, but it’s more than that. The people- or individuals, rather- that she’s met, loved, and lost have left indelible marks on her and even for all of the terrible things she’s seen, and experienced, she wouldn’t trade that (or them) for anything.

    “It’s always worth it.”

Carole turned from the console she was using to hack into the account of a very important turian diplomat and gave the other woman a very large, satisfied grin.

“Fortunately for us, ‘not legal’ doesn’t really exist in my kind of work. Not to mention ‘not legal’ usually means ‘most fun’,” the Spectre turned back to the console and opened up the statement she was looking for.

“Ah, so we’ve got ourselves a corrupt diplomat. Who would have thought?” Bringing up her omni-tool, Carole forwarded the information to her partner so she could see for herself.
