Victoria Bus Station, Salford

Taken from the high vantage point of Exchange Station Approach, this view looks over Victoria Bus Station and down Chapel Street. 

From left to right the GEC Building demolished in the early 1960s, the Old Ship Hotel and behind that the massive telephone exchange of Dial House. 

In the mid far distance, Threlfall's brewery can just be made out. 

On the right is the large shed of Exchange Railway Station. 

A Salford City Transport bus passes the bus station on it's way to Bolton on service 12 having just left it's terminus in Greengate, underneath Exchange Station.

Sacred Trinity, Chapel Street, Salford 

1976

Sacred Trinity church, Salford, was originally built as a chapel-of-ease to serve the growing population of Salford in 1635. Most of the current building dates from 1752. It is a 2* listed building with many original features. It was restored in 1877-74 and adapted for more flexible use in the 1980’s. 

This 1976 photograph, taken from the roof top of the nearby Highland House office tower block, clearly showing the bend in the main railway line into Manchester Victoria railway station,which the old railway companies had to make to avoid the church. 

In the middle of the picture is Deal Street Signal Box, opened 1929 and closed 1998. [by forestpines]
