Chapter 167.1

The doll in the picture is in the same position as the one from a thousand years ago, is that how it looks in stores? And it also probably means that the guy isn't searching for a specific doll, he's just trying to find any with that model... the plot thickens.

Kind of funny seeing how fixated the doll is on crying as a human thing. Like, it just makes the whole concept seem ridiculous. If it had a human body, it would be able to cry. Doesn't that mean it's feeling the same heartache in its doll body, just without any outward expression of it? And Fushi—who is physically capable of crying, doesn't do it at all. The way I interpret it is a bit like the manga's making fun of the people reading who think tears equal humanity, but I also think that interpretation is just how I see things, not what Ooima intended.

Watching the doll be so sure of what it wants to do, and initiate immediate action has really nailed down how thoughtful Fushi is. Yeah, indecisive is another word for it, if they saw a kid about to injure a toy they would intervene as well but they wouldn't give the kid third degree burns and run (respect to the doll for doing that though), they would stay and try to resolve the situation. And fail, because that specific kid was an asshole. But Fushi really takes their time mulling over things, second-guessing their motivation before making a decision. Which I like a lot, but at the same time it's interesting to see a protagonist who's self-starting like the doll. The reason the story's leaping into action so quickly, instead of starting slowly like the first several arcs of FnAe, is because she's going straight for what she wants.

The doll referred to herself with the first person pronoun ore (おれ), in hiragana instead of kanji, which is what most of the characters in FnAe use. Up until now, the doll has been using watashi, also in hiragana. I think the hiragana is supposed to be an indication that she doesn't know her kanji very well (although! It's pretty normal even for people who do know the kanji for ore or watashi to use hiragana anyways. But there was an instance where the doll seemed to be unsure of what a word meant which makes me think it probably doesn't know). But, to my knowledge, the only character to call themselves by "ore" in hiragana up until this point has been... yeah. Fushi. I think I should start keeping track of all the evidence on like a scoreboard or something. Up on my wall. One tally mark every time the doll does something Fushi would do, one tally mark every time she does something Fushi would not do.
