Tagging anyone who has chapter titles they adore and just want to share their stories to the world!
I recall doing this tag game with One Siren’s Soul already, but that was a long while ago, so let’s go again! Because I’m a massive nerd, I’ll also include a bit of a definition, and the reason why I chose that title!
With 23 chapters, this gets a bit long, so under the cut we go!
CHAPTER 1: Set Sail - The start of the story, and the start of a voyage!
CHAPTER 2: Surge - A sudden increase (e.g. in power or electricity); or a sudden push forward or upward in movement. A surge of magic happens in this chapter, sure, but also quite a surge of emotion~ c;
CHAPTER 3: Shoal - A large group of fish swimming together; an area of shallow water (particularly a danger to navigation); or a hidden danger, obstacle, or difficulty. The cast groups up in this chapter, but they also have to be careful of some hidden dangers!
CHAPTER 4: Siren - An alarm’s warning or signal sound; or (in the Anchored Souls universe, anyways) a humanoid creature with a fish-like tail who can often lure sailors in with a magical song. This is the first time the reader is introduced to a true siren (the mermaid one)!
CHAPTER 5: Derelict - Something in very poor condition due to neglect or disuse, usually a piece of property (like a ship!); or a person without a home, job, or property. The exact reasoning for this one is a spoiler, but what I can say is: poor Phoenix. :c
CHAPTER 6: Stranded - (Something is) left aground on a shore; or left without the means to move elsewhere. Two characters are indeed stranded this chapter!
CHAPTER 7: Leak - To pass in or out through a hole or crack by accident; to lose or admit something through a hole or crack accidentally; or to intentionally disclose (a secret). Someone gets snitched on! Also Dione can’t fully control her magic oops.
CHAPTER 8: Buoy - An anchored float serving as a navigation mark or for mooring; to keep something or someone afloat; or to cause someone to become cheerful or more confident. Some people find out what their next objectives are and some people feel a bit happier about things. 👍
CHAPTER 9: Adrift - Floating without being either moored or steered; or to be without purpose, direction, or guidance. Celestine’s not having too much fun. ^^’
CHAPTER 10: Harbour - A place on the coast where vessels may find shelter, especially from rougher conditions; a place of refuge; keep a thought or feeling in mind, especially secretly; or to shelter or hide a wanted person. The crew is harbouring while harboured in a harbour in a harbour. :3
CHAPTER 11: Resurface - To put a new coating on or reform a surface; to come back up to the surface; to arise or become evident again; or to come out of hiding or obscurity. Phoenix claims her fame once again, and some lovely secrets come to light~
CHAPTER 12: Eddy - A small whirlpool; a circular movement of wind, fog, or smoke; or to move in a circular motion. No one can agree on anything and they kinda just spin around aimlessly for a while. :I
CHAPTER 13: Mutiny - An open rebellion against the proper authorities; or to refuse to obey the orders of a person in authority. The main crew has some difficulties working together, rebel against the Royal Navy, and also break many laws. :D
CHAPTER 14: Capsized - To be overturned in the water, especially of a boat. The whole plan goes kaput, and nearly so too does Dione.
CHAPTER 15: Knot - To tie together rope or string; a fastening formed from tying rope or string; a tangled mass in something; an unpleasant feeling of tightness or tension in a part of the body; or a unit of speed equivalent to one nautical mile per hour. A sailor’s knowledge becomes especially useful, and some pretty tense situations come about~
CHAPTER 16: Storm - A violent disturbance of the atmosphere, often with precipitation and/or lightning; a heavy discharge of missiles or blows; a tumultuous reaction; to move angrily or forcefully; to suddenly attack and capture a location by means of force; or, in the Anchored Souls universe, a Very Important Character *wink wink nudge nudge*. c; Anyways, some pretty big stuff happens this chapter.
CHAPTER 17: Beacon - A fire or light set up in a prominent position as a warning, signal, or celebration. Some lighthouse shenanigans are afoot.
CHAPTER 18: Squall - A sudden violent gust of wind or a localized storm; or a loud cry. Someone gets shoved around and someone cries and it’s not fun. :c
CHAPTER 19: Pitch - The degree of highness or lowness of a tone; a form of words used when trying to persuade someone to buy or accept something; to throw or fling something roughly; or to fall heavily. We hear a siren’s song for the first time, and Celestine presents the possibility of a deal.
CHAPTER 20: Hurricane - A storm with a violent wind that forms a giant cyclone. Climax time! Everything’s a mess.
CHAPTER 21: Eye - Those things in your face you see out of; the calm region at the center of a storm or hurricane; a loop at the end of a rope, especially one at the top end of a shroud or stay; or to look at or watch closely. This chapter needs heavy editing, so may not actually make it into the final draft! I’m thinking of combining it with the next chapter and just going with that title.
CHAPTER 22: Wake - To stop sleeping; to become aware of; or a watch or vigil held beside the body of someone who has died. All three happen this chapter, though no bodies are present...
CHAPTER 23: Drop Anchor - The grand voyage comes to an end (for now!) and so too does this story!
If you’ve read that all, I seriously admire you, wow. :o Hope you found it interesting!! Have a lovely day~
i was tagged (technically) by @dipthongsfordays! who it won't let me @! for some reason! hm
this is the post in which i expose myself as a *giant* chapter title nerd btw

i'll tag a Lot of people because im not sure who does and doesnt have chapter titles: @stormharbors, @albatris, @toboldlywrite, @letswritestories101, @ashen-crest, @bluewritesbadly, @cream-and-tea, and anyone else who wants to. please. i love chapter titles and i wanna see some (but dont feel pressured!!)
@ashen-crest tagged me to share some chapter titles...but my chapter titles are so boring! I tend to use numbers, dates, POV character's names or a combination of those things.
Project Storm is divided into sections as well as chapters. It has...
Prologue
Before
Then
Now
Epilogue
I'm leaving this as an open tag for anyone who would like to share chapter titles (or experimental structure stuff, I guess?!)
