Story arc, it's just that simple. Find it here https://youtu.be/wbxVUOefs4c It's for novels, but it's the same in screenwriting. Play by the rules before you break them. Writey-Oh
The Character Journey of Frodo Baggins- Act VIII
“I have come,” he said. “But I do not choose now to do what I came to do. I will not do this deed. The Ring is mine!” And suddenly, as he set it on his finger, he vanished from Sam’s sight...
…Suddenly Sam saw Gollum’s long hands draw upwards to his mouth; his white fangs gleamed, and then snapped as they bit. Frodo gave a cry, and there he was, fallen upon his knees at the chasm’s edge...
“Precious, precious, precious!” Gollum cried. “My Precious! O, my Precious! And with that, even as his eyes were lifted up to gloat on his prize, he stepped too far, toppled, wavered for a moment on the brink, and then with a shriek he fell. Out of the depths came his last wail Precious, and he was gone. The Return of the King

Map of Vashti
From my fanfic, “If I Let You Go.”
The Qowat Milat convent at South Station proved much larger than their Sanctuary at North Station. The building had an open floor plan with several levels and few walls; the Qowat Milat insisted upon openness in all things. Instead, they hung curtains to keep out bad weather. Since the weather was fine today, the convent rooms and cloisters were revealed for all to see.
The main difference between the two communities was that Zani's had been built in a tree, which reminded Tristan of the Swiss Family Robinson. Both places made him uneasy, like he was exposed – which, of course, he was.
Calan was their abbess at this convent. Latra explained the situation and she permitted them to stay while Tristan conducted his business.
"Our home and our hearts are open to you, Prince," Calan said, moving her hands in the opening book action.
Tristan returned the greeting. "I am grateful."
"And I am grateful to meet one such as you. You are living proof that Romulans and Terrans can co-exist in peace. We do not see many examples of that on Vashti."
"It must be tiring to have to always be the ones to set the example," Tristan surmised.
Calan smiled. "There is freedom in Absolute Candor."
He considered the statement. "I can see that. I confess I'm still getting used to it. To tell the truth, I'm not sure I ever will."
Now, I’m gonna test out a new post form and so we will follow the journey of a tribute from the last game
Starting at the reaping, we have Sapphire Shores in District 11
At the Bloodbath, we saw her bully a child
Day 1, we saw her teaming up to raid Daybreaker’s camp
Night 1, she received medical supplies, from who we don’t know
Day 2, we saw her participate in another camp raid
Night 2, she got lost
Day 3, she gets bullied by a clone. Not so tough then, huh?
At the Arena Event of a tsunami, she survives
Night 3, what goes around, comes around. Or, she got owned
Day 4, just doing her own thing. Reflecting upon her actions
And then we come to Night 4, where she meets her end from the cold
Hello~ What are somethings that can stop people from getting to their destination? My characters are about to arrive at a big plot place but need to become closer and bond first.
Hi there! Congrats to your characters for getting to a Big Plot Place, that sounds exciting.
I think this depends on how your characters are traveling. If it’s on foot with hardly any resources, then they will need to periodically stop and find ways to get food/money/water/whatever else they need. They will also get tired, and you can write in some minor injuries that prompt more stops than usual.
If your characters are set in This Great and Modern Age, delays are your new best friend. Flights get delayed. So do trains. Uber drivers could get lost or could be late. Their car could break down. There could be traffic. These inconveniences are good to bond over, too, so there’s that.
There are Old Age equivalents of the above examples, too, if your story is more fantasy or historical fiction. Your donkey gets lame. There’s a troll on this bridge that is demanding toll that you don’t have. What do you mean, this town doesn’t have a stable? I need a horse!
The weather can mess with your characters, too. If they’re traveling by sea to their Big Plot Place, give them a storm to wait out. If they’re on foot, rain or snow could drive them to shelter. Nothing like cabin fever to prompt some bonding, amirite?
You can give your characters a quick side quest, too. You’d have to make sure it would still have to relate to your overarching story, of course, but if your characters have to go win Queen Lisa’s heart then they have to get through the gates of the castle. And maybe the guard in charge of the gates needs his roof fixed. Then you can have a bonding scene of “how do we fix a roof? like this?” while still technically making progress.
The problems can be mental instead of physical. Perhaps your character has major anxiety over whatever they’re supposed to be accomplishing, and another character helps comfort them. Maybe they’re all worried, and they have to stop right before they walk through that door and talk things out with each other. Could be that one of them just doesn’t feel ready to take on whatever they’re about to take on, and slows the others down.
If all else fails, just sit down and ask yourself, How many things can possibly go wrong right now? and then pick one or two and write them.
Hopefully some of this helped you out! Since I don’t really know what kind of journey your characters are on I kind of had to pull some things out of the air by myself, so if this wasn’t quite what you were looking for feel free to send in another ask :)
